Chapter 2
by Nyahahameha
What game will Button Mash play today?
None of them. Go touch grass, nerd.
Button looked across his collection, eyes passing from one machine to the next, titles printed sideways on the spines of jewel cases speeding past his vision like cars down the opposite side of the highway. He waited for something, anything, to catch his eye, to jump out at him and scream, "play me!"
Nothing did. At the start of his eyes' sixth lap past the shelves, he heaved a groan and fell backward onto his bed, eyelids screwed shut. He had come to a painful realization, one that he hesitated to acknowledge directly in his mind, but he would have to if he didn't want to be resigned to laying in bed bored all day:
He didn't want to play any of the games he had.
He found himself facing this dilemma on a semi-regular basis. It usually happened whenever he found himself looking particularly forward to an upcoming release. It was the byproduct of becoming hyperfixated on something not yet in his possession - the inability to find interest in anything else in the same category as it.
With a resigned sigh, he rolled himself out of bed, threw on some denim jeans and a red-and-white flannel button-up over his multi-controller graphic tee and made his way out of the building his dorm room was housed within. He knew if he didn't find some kind of activity to occupy his attention and get his mind off of Xenohorn Chronicles 3 which was set to release in a couple of weeks, after having been suddenly moved up from its initially announced release window of this year's holiday season, and was seemingly poised to bring together the settings of the first two Xenohorn games but strangely didn't seem to feature any of those games' characters save for two who were wearing masks in the trailer but definitely looked like--
He shook his head free of the storm of speculation threatening to blow his train of thought off its rails. He had to get up to something or this would be him all day. He looked forward at the university campus sprawled before him. The university itself had a number of recreational amenities its students could take advantage of, such as a gym, a games room (for billiards and darts and table tennis, not video games), a swimming pool, a bike path with bicycle rentals, tennis and basketball courts, a handful of baseball diamonds, a bowling alley, and stadium where rugby and football can be played. Of course, he could also leave campus entirely. He could probably find even more stuff to do in the city proper, though he'd probably have to pay for those.

Button's Mom is a Literal Goddess
"Escapism" can't help him escape from her
Your name is Button Mash, 19 year old college freshman. And your mom just happens to be a literal goddess. Omnipotence and everything. Day in and day out you are constantly bombarded with reminders that your mom is the most powerful being in existence. You're hoping today will be a break from that, given it's the weekend and you plan to hole up in your dorm room and while away the entire day with your favorite pastime: gaming. It's the most reliable escape you have from your mom's otherwise all-encompassing influence, but much like a Pokemon move, if the accuracy isn't 100, it might as well be 0.
