Chapter 4
by LilacFox
Did I look at the computer?
No
Resisting the urge to look I leaned up against the desk in the middle of the room and just waited for Jake to come back. It was admitably more difficult than I expected, not looking at the computer, but I stayed strong.
It didn't take long for Jake to come back, and when he turned on the lights he didn't seem to have noticed me until they came on as he jumped slightly, clamoring "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, what are ya doin' standin' dere in the dark lass!?!"
I was taken aback by this and somewhat meekly answered back "Sorry, I didn't know where the light was."
He glared at me a moment, as if trying to decide on something, before walking over to the computer. "Well, what ya want?"
He was making me nervous, but I was here for a reason "Oh, I... um... wanted to know if we could sort out this scheduled thing for my air-conditioner."
He sat down, glancing intently at the screen, then to me, back at the screen, then back to me before starting to manipulate the computer "Dat's fine... I may be able to squeeze ya around 6 O'clock week from Wednesday... dat work for ya?"
The phrasing of 'squeeze ya' confused me a bit, but the prospect of finally getting the air-conditioner looked at made me happy.
