Does he bother answering?
No
Pursing his lips, James flipped the phone onto it's screen. "No. You know what? It's time for some fun. That's enough shit for me today." He ignored the incessant tone entirely, standing up and taking her hand. He lead her to the living room, where he grabbed a deck of cards and a bag of chips.
"Time to teach you poker. It's fun once you get the hang of it.", He smiled.
She flickered white, with spots of blue and brown. "Pock-err? Whät is...hhannng of?", using the back of her tongue to speak was an obvious challenge.
James bit his lip, mentally berating himself for forgetting she had no way of knowing slang terms. "Poker. It's a game, something we do for fun. I meant to say it's fun when you understand it."
A wave of green played across her face, and came with a smile. She watched him shuffle the cards intently, listening closely to his explanations of the parts of each card and how to use them in this game. Now and then she caught his eye looking at hers, and forced her attention back to the cards with a small shimmer of purple. Eventually, after several practice rounds, she understood.
"Normally we would play with plastic discs we call chips. They're worth money in professional games, but we're good using snacks.", He explained. He heard another buzz from his phone in the other room. Definitely ignoring that, he decided.
"Ready?", He asked. With a sharp nod, she watched closely as he dealt the cards.
Who wins?
