"You can't tell me to do that," said Alicia.

"Oh, yes, I can," said the woman. "It's in your contract."

"I don't remember seeing anything to that effect in my contract," Alicia lied.

"It doesn't matter whether or not you saw it," said the woman. "You're still legally bound to obey it."

"Not if I don't work here, I don't," said Alicia.

"You really don't want to walk out of here," said the woman. "The other jobs that are available to a woman of your age and education status will only be worse."

"That's what you think," said Alicia.

And with that, Alicia walked out of the woman's office and then walked right out of the building.

Across the street, Alicia saw a "Help Wanted" sign in a nearby window.

"Cool!" she said. "Things are going my way already."
