Maria snuck back into her house and into her bedroom, luckily, her mother was still asleep and she was able to avoid getting caught by anyone else.

Later that day, Maria and Ashley joined Jason and Jason's friend, Elliot, at the gym. The quartet went to the gym every Saturday, it was always pretty private. Maria and Ashley were telling the guys about their night at the Cat's Meow.

"I thought you said you weren't going" said Jason, working away at the punching bag.

"I wasn't at first, but I decided I needed some fun for once, so I changed my mind, and it was quite fun" said Maria, on the treadmills

"So, you meet anyone?" asked Elliot, on the rowing machine

"Sorta, I kinda danced with this cute blonde guy" said Maria

"Who was he?" asked Jason, throwing more punches at the bag

"I never actually got his name" said Maria

"But I saw him too, I can verify, he WAS cute" said Ashley, on an exercise bike.

"He didn't try anything, did he?" asked Jason

"Like what?" asked Maria

"He didn't try to grab your butt or anything like that, did he?" asked Jason

"No, we just danced, and he kept telling me not to go back to the club again" said Maria

"He's right, you should listen to him" said Jason

"Why? For the first time in my life, I felt free" said Maria

"Because, Maria, that place isn't for someone like you" said Jason

"How would you know that? You've never been" said Maria

"I don't need to go, I know that place is a place of corruption that ruins the people that enter it's walls, I just don't want that to happen to you" said Jason

"It won't happen to me, I promise" said Maria

"Oh, let me tell you about that officer from this morning" said Ashley

"What officer?" asked Elliot

"We were getting back home when I was caught by this officer while I was trying to hide, he tried dragging me to his car, talking about 'having fun' with me, but Maria tackled him and we were able to get away" said Ashley

"Wait, he saw you two in your costumes? ARE YOU BOTH FUCKING IDIOTS" said Jason, losing his temper

"Uh, Jason..." said Maria, a bit scared of Jason, she had never seen Jason angry before and she had never heard him swear.

"Jason, don't be mad at her, be mad at me, I'm the one that convinced her to go and I'm the one she saved" said Ashley

"I AM MAD AT YOU, if Maria had gotten caught, her life here would have been over, she would have gotten expelled from school and arrested, she'd never get accepted into college and she'd never get out of this town, and it would have been all YOUR fault" said Jason, with venom in his voice

"Dude, calm down, take a chill pill" said Elliot

Jason took a few deep breaths and calmed down before turning to Maria.

"Maria, don't go back to that place, your future isn't worth ruining for a few hours of fun" said Jason

Jason grabbed his gym back and headed to the men's locker room.

"What's his problem?" asked Maria

"Maybe his undying love for you" said Elliot, sarcastically

"Don't talk nonsense, Jason sees me as nothing more than a friend" said Maria

In actuality, Elliot wasn't far from the truth, Jason had a crush on Maria since seventh grade, but while Maria thought Jason was a handsome and sweet guy, she couldn't date him. Jason's reputation was too important to the town, she didn't want to ruin his image, an image he was already putting at risk just by being friends with her.
