Chapter 3 by braunackerman1 braunackerman1

Does Matt trust him?

No other option

Matt’s decision, however, was made for him, when all of the sudden a horde of zombies appeared. They were running full speed in Matt’s direction and if he didn’t act quickly it would be the end for him.

So, without any other options. Matt took off in the direction of the Man and his apartment.

“Go through that door!” yelled the man, gesturing at a door on the side of building.

Matt didn’t need to be told twice. He vaulted over a bench and ran down the sidewalk towards the door. The door swung open and Matt could see the man standing just inside. Matt made it inside, and the man slammed the door in the zombie’s faces.

Matt took a minute to breathe, before looking up at his savior. They were inside a small cramped staircase. Up closer, Matt could see that the man was early middle aged, although his face wrinkled a lot as he smiled at Matt.

“You ok Son?” the man asked “Names Jerry, what’s yours?”

“Matt, but what are you doing yelling loudly though?” Matt asked angrily , “You almost served my ass up on a plater for some zombies.”

“My apologies Son, I wanted to make sure I got your attention, you looked like you could use some help. I’ve got some food and a safe place you can rest for the night, so come on.”

With that the man turned and walked away up the stairs. Matt thought about just waiting in the staircase for the zombies to leave and booking it. Matt was doubtful about the man just giving away valuable resources, but given his current situation, Matt decided he had **** but to trust the man.

Matt rushed up the stairs, and found the man holding the door open to the second floor.

“After you,” he said.

Matt nodded thank you and then man followed after him. Only two apartments could be reached from the staircase, a barricade of furniture had blocked off the rest of the hallway. Matt heard metal grinding and turned around to see the man sealing the door shut with a piece of metal across the handle.

“Better safe than sorry,” he said “Anyway welcome to my home, I used to only own the apartment on the left, but I took over my neighbors apartment across the hall after the virus broke out.”

“Cool,” muttered Matt, still very unsure about the situation, “So you just a helpful person or what?”

“Absolutely,” exclaimed the man, grabbing Matt by his shoulder, “You see I happen to be in a very fortunate situation. After the virus broke out, none of my neighbors ever made it back to the complex. So, I raided each and every one of their homes and was able to stockpile food. One of my neighbors had a portable generator with a good supply of fuel, so I even have electricity. Basically, I’m in an ideal situation, so I feel like because of that I’m required to help those in need.”

“Uhhh, alright then,” Matt murmured still very much on edge.

“Listen I know it’s weird, but I promise you I’m not going to hurt you. If makes you feel any better you’re not the only person I have staying with me.”

By now the two had walked into one of the apartments where two girls were sitting. They both looked to be in their early twenties, and they were both Arabic with curly brown hair and deep caramel skin. Jerry introduced them as Carmine and Mari, two people he saved from a horde.

“Nice to meet you,” said Matt awkwardly.

“Yeah, you too,” replied Carmine unenthusiastically.

“Anyway,” said Jerry, “it’s starting to get late, let me cook up some dinner.”

As Jerry went into the other apartment to cook. Matt leaned over to the girls.

“So what’s his deal?” Matt asked.

“Who, Jerry?” said Carmine “Don’t worry about him, he’s actually harmless. He’s just old as fuck, and I think that he’s more afraid of being alone than the zombies.”

“Yeah, he keeps making up excuses for us to stay with him,” said Mari, “It’s not the worst diggs, but personally I’m trying to dip as soon as possible. I’m not trying to to stay in this place, eventually the crazy old man is going to let in the wrong person and get us all turned.”

“Yeah,” was all Mark said in reply.

“I think we’re going to leave in the morning,” said Mari, “it’s nothing personal, just looking out for ourselves.”

“Understandable,” said Matt.

Matt felt the same. He probably wasn’t going to stick around much either. This place was a walking **** trap he wasn’t trying to be a part of. Matt thought about asking to travel with the girls, however something about them seemed off. Especially Carmine. She wouldn’t meet either him or her friend in the eye, and kept staring at the ground.

“Hey dinners ready,” rang out Jerry’s voice.

Matt got up to go to dinner, still very uneasy about his situation.
