Although your Pokemon were brave and valiant, they couldn't stand to the might of the boss Pokemon, even when trying to use items as much as possible to keep them fighting. You lost the challenge!
(I can't say I've done this before, because usually I try to get the advantage as much as possible in Pokemon games. Anyways, if you went down this path in the game, maybe you can replace this path with something else and tie it to the story somehow.)
