Does she remember to wake you up?
No, she forgot you until her last exam.
You slept so quietly and she was so swamped by exams that your mom forgot to wake you up. Strange images started to dance in your dreams, almost like you were absorbing what was said in each exam. As the hours passed, your dreams got stranger and stranger, until you were sure your body was begging you to snap out of it and wake up. You did finally get jolted awake, but not before your drowsy brain tried to make sense of what it was overhearing.
"You've got so much that you should really consider taking care of it at least once a day. Otherwise I think the buildup will make everyday activities harder than they should be. Have you noticed it getting super sensitive when you can't give it some love?"
"Yeah, it does get like that, but it takes a long time when I do it by myself. I just can't get it worked out without some help most of the time. I've never had one like that before though, it was a huge difference!"
"I can't believe how impressive all of you guys have been! I guess your year in quarantine really made you boys grow up a bit. You all had something to show me that made my day. Hell, I think you boys might have made me reconsider my job!"
"I bet my dad would be happy to have you. The way you just worked all of us out has to be some sort of record. Sorry about the mess though, I know Marcus came up with the no gloves thing as a joke, but I'm glad you played along. That was fire."
"I'm going to need a promise that you'll talk to your dad for me. I'd love to help out the boys more. I think I'll need you to watch out for Chris if I start working for the team though. He's got a small problem that I want to keep an eye on, but you'll have to talk to the guys. I can't have Chris hearing anything about this, or stumbling across any messy situations."
"For sure, I think we all want to see more of what you have to offer this year. We'll shut up pretty quick if that's what's on the line!"
"Is that so? I'm flattered! You are all such good boys. Now let me get your big friend here put away and you can go. I'm sure everyone outside is ready to get home by now. We went a little over time..."
"Sure thing Ms. Lawrence!"
In your haze, you finally started to peer through the screen that your mom had pulled in front of the cot you were napping on. It was like waking from a deep sleep, your limbs weren't really responding and everything felt super heavy, while your senses seemed oddly dull. Your eyes weren't quite up to snuff yet either, as you could only see the shadow of your mom and one of your teammates starting to walk out of the room. Without thinking too much you leaned up and swung your legs off the cot, jostling the screen louder than you planned to and causing your mom to basically jump through the roof; shoving your teammate the rest of the way out of her office before she turned around to respond.
"Chris? Oh my God I forgot you were back there! I'm so sorry! After you laid down I had so much stuff to do that I forgot you had even come with me today. I got so focused on what I was doing... Are you feeling any better?"
"Yeah, I'm feeling better, but I'm really groggy. I think I was feeling too anxious before from... you know..."
"I'm glad you're feeling better, you poor thing. I know today was tough on you and that nobody wants to have their mom be their doctor, but I think you did a great job Chris. I'm proud of you, but talking with you reminds me that I still have work to do, but I think it can wait until tomorrow. Did you sleep the whole time?"
"Yes, it felt like I was getting up from a coma a second ago. I don't know what woke me up, but I could hear your voice. Couldn't understand it, but it was yours and some guy."
"Oh, that was Terry, I was just going over some tips for an issue he was having. He'll be ready to play, don't you worry! But I'm glad you didn't see anything, I'd hate to have broken any of your friend's confidences, or get sued if they find out you were in the room the whole time. Please don't mention it, okay? And since you're so well rested and I've been on my feet all day, how about you go get the car and drive us home? I'm beat!"
"Sure thing mom."
You went out of the office to see that everyone and the team bus were gone. Rose had texted you a few times to see where you were, and you responded that you had gotten your physical done early then taken a nap in another doctor's office. Told her just enough to bend the truth rather than outright lie because you had no way to "be somewhere else" in any excuse you came up with.
A few minutes of catching up with Rose later, your mom was finally out of the clinic and into the car for you to head home, but what she said came at somewhat of a shock, as your brain still couldn't process what she had said to Terry as you were waking up.
"I think that I might want to work with the team more closely. I'd get to see you play and practice more often, and monitor your... condition. Out of everyone I think you and Terry might have the greatest need for my supervision. What do you think?"
"Uh.. I guess that's cool. What was Terry's deal? Is he alright?"
"Oh, he's in fine football shape, he's just got a... big cluster of knots that need attention. I found them during my check and we had to work them out. You know I spent some time in Chiro school. I love figuring stuff like that out. It just took a lot of time to really dig into all that... figure of his. I was surprised that nobody else is helping him get rid of all that tension he's got building up. Anyway, I need to relax. This has been the longest day I've ever spent in the clinic!"
"Yeah, today felt like an eternity for me too."
