You lean forward and give Lea a kiss on the forehead as you extract yourself from her embrace “Look after the other two” you whisper as you turn to leave, You pause with your hand on the apartment door “If I am not back in a couple of days, Get out of the city and find somewhere safe”. With those parting words you pull open the door and step out into the hallway.
Making your way down the stairs you can feel your heart pounding in your chest, you know that it is entirely possible that the men guarding the base will simply shoot you on sight. But even so you have to try, you promised Gwen and Lea that you would do your best to save their friends, the girls may have forgiven you for **** them, but you can’t forgive yourself.
As you step out onto the streets the first rays of sunlight creep over the horizon, you pause and watch as the sun’s rays begin to burn away the night sky. A smile washes over your face as you watch what could very well be your last sunrise.
Turning the corner you step out into the centre of the street and begin the slow march towards the barricade. Up ahead you see one of the guards has spotted you; though you can’t hear what he’s saying you can tell he is calling out a warning to the others behind the barrier. You continue to walk slowly forward, keeping your hands out in plain sight.
You almost falter as you see the guard on top of the bus raise his rifle to his shoulder and take aim, But you carry on. There is nothing else you can do, nowhere for you to hide.
