What's next?
No, I don't think so.
"I'm sorry, I'm not that interested."
"What would you say if I charged you a hundred dollars for the rental?"
"Why would I pay to take it if I turned it down when it was free?"
Ann smiled an enigmatic little smile. She could see the wheels turning in Sarah's head; her kind was all too predictable.
"Has it been used before?"
"Yes, extensively. But it has been thoroughly cleaned since last use. And it must be returned by this time tomorrow."
"Or I'll be charged another day; I understand how this works."
Ann sashayed to the window and retrieved the item, placing it in a foot-long gift box and gently wrapping a ribbon around to close it. Sarah grabbed the box roughly and proudly marched out.
As the door closed Ann quietly said, "Actually, there's no charge for extended borrowing; there are just... consequences."
Sarah snorted as she hailed a taxi. "Best deal of my life," she said to herself, "I got a steal on borrowing this and I know just who to embarrass with it."
Who is she going to embarrass?
