Chapter 10 by Icequeen52 Icequeen52

What's next?

Next move: moving

We talk about our next move over a hearty lunch. We decide that we want to move houses. Considering the fact that there’s nobody else around, we pretty much have our pick of whichever place we want to live in. After some discussion, it’s also decided that we’ll live in the same house.

I originally object to this idea, citing Hailey’s likely need for privacy.

She points out that two people living in the same house can give each other privacy, and that there would also be a lot of advantages in living together, including ease of communication and if either one of us gets into trouble somehow, the other will be there to help.

I concede, acutely aware that the main reason I have for not wanting to live with Hailey is due to embarrassment and shyness.

She is a beautiful young woman after all, and I’ve never really had a girlfriend or any kind of similar experience, and it seems daunting to take such a big leap.

But, I can’t think of a good reason that would convince Hailey not to move in with me, without alerting her to the fact that I’m embarrassed and shy as hell around her, despite being able to fake confidence, so all I can really do is go along with it.

After lunch, we agree to pack up whatever we’d like to take with us from our homes, and meet back at the complex. We part ways, our tires spinning and our engines roaring.

I push it as fast as I dare on the way home. I notice I’m already missing her company. I shrug aside the feeling, and park my car in front of my parents house.

I don’t really think of it as my home. I haven’t for a few years and I’ve been looking towards greener pastures, but with recent events, that feeling has grown exponentially.

I step inside and head to my room. I pack up the few things that I want to take, a few pieces of technology, including my all of gaming and computer gear, along with my guitar, all my band merch, and a few other things as keepsakes.

It doesn’t take me too long, and I figure that it doesn’t really matter if I don’t get everything, because it’ll be easy enough to come back here if there’s something I forgot.

I load the last of my stuff into the car, start it up and drive back to the complex. I find Hailey already waiting for me when I arrive. As I shut the door, she calls out in a joking tone. ‘Took you long enough!’

‘And how long have you been waiting for?’ I shoot back.

She can’t contain the grin that breaks out on her face. ‘Only a couple of minutes.’ ‘Yeah exactly, so shut it.’ I say, laughing.

Where to?
