New Town and New Job.

Rose Harpenter pulled into the town police station as she was lost and needed directions. She was new in town so she had to make new friends again. She was in her uniform so maybe that would break the ice with those in the station but then again some did not play well with others. She walked into the police station and introduced herself to the desk sergeant who looked up from his paperwork and seeing her there in her uniform and recognised the patch for Pentwell women's correctional facility. She explained that she was lost and needed directions which the sergeant gave her.

As she was studying the map two-state troopers enter flanking a female and approached the sergeant and handed over the female who was dressed in an orange jumpsuit. Her name was Linda Casey and she was being transported from Joliet to Pentwell to continue her sentence. The sergeant sat her down on a bench and cuffed her to the wall while he went in search of officers to transport the prisoner to the facility. After thirty minutes he returned having had no luck so he guessed he would have to book her into the station for the night until transport could be arranged.

Then the light bulb went off in his head as he saw Rose about to leave the station and called her back asking her if she could transport the convict. Rose was eager to help and impress on her first day so she said yes and the prisoner was led out to Rose's car and cuffed in back and Rose got on the road heading to the prison. The sergeant said he would phone ahead and promptly got sidetracked and forgot so only he was aware of the transport. They headed south out of town onto the highway and Rose knew she had an hour drive ahead. She was also carrying some new equipment for the prison which the sergeant had handed her.

Linda requested a restroom break so Rose pulled into a diner and found the toilets and released Linda's cuffed hands then waited outside. Linda being resourceful stuffed some tissue into the sleeve of the cuff then made sure it could not be seen. This would have the effect of stopping the rachet arm locking but also appear to the guard that it was engaged. She headed back out placing her hands behind her back for Rose to cuff again. This done they got back on the road and Linda tested the cuffs and they came apart a expected then she leant forward waiting for Rose to stop again. Rose pulled over to consult the map again and Linda took her opportunity to make her move.
