We call that suspense!
My God...!
I got up onto the roof to find waiting for me...
"Weasel!?"
"Hi there, Newton. You look surprised." It was Weasel, but the voice was the woman from the phone. What the hell was this?
"Why are you talking like that? Who are you?"
"I am Jeffrey Holst, the one gifted with the silver tongue that reduces the defenses of women and men alike to nothing. But have you ever stopped to wonder why I can do this? Men are easy, of course. They're so simple, anyone who tries can figure them out. But women require a more subtle approach. You have to make them trust you before you can manipulate them. You have to know how their minds work." Weasel or whoever put a little emphasis on the last part, so it was probably a clue or something. 'How their minds work'. Who would know how a woman's mind...
No. No fuckin' way.
"You're not Jeff, are you," I asked, thinking I had solved the puzzle. Not even close.
"Oh, I'm Jeff alright. I'm as much Jeff as Jeff ever was. But to answer your question a bit late, I'm talking like this because this is my real voice. Until a few years ago, I was Jennifer Holst, Debate Team captain and student at KU. Not to mention a victim of the famous Dirty Ghost." This person had venom in those words, and it dissolved my composure. "You've been tricked, Newton. Brought down by one of your victims. Just, isn't it? Like watching the man who raped you undergo lethal injection."
"I never raped anybody!" It was true. I had never and would never actually violate a woman.
"You may as well have," she roared back. "You broke into my room and stole my panties! My sense of security was shattered! Part of my sexuality was tainted! I felt vulnerable and exposed! Who knew what a sick fuck like you was doing with my most intimate of clothing? And why was I made to think about these things late at night until graduation? For a laugh? So you could smell me!? You're sick, Newton! And now, you're going to die for it!"
