Julien awoke as usual with the Larka rooster crowing from the Joxine farm down the road. Since he had hit puberty hadn't been able to sleep past that damnable crowing. And it wasn't for a lack of trying.

Julien was halfway through his morning stretches when a familiar knock sounded on his door. "Enter." He called loud enough to be heard through the door.

Marna Joxine entered his room, her brown hair pulled back in a tight ponytail that she had draped over her right shoulder. Her attire was simple sparing tunic and pants. "Hello Julien."

"A little early for our training don't you think?"

"Yes, well...I needed to talk to your brother. But he's not answering."

"He found a cipher of our grandfather's. We were up late trying to figure it out..."

"Okay...but I peeked in...he's not in his room." She said, a slight nervousness making her voice waver.

Julien smirked, he didn't understand why they kept quiet about their feelings for each other. He was always couteous to her, and even a warrior woman was still a woman. And she was almost as protective of James as Julien was. "What do you need to speak to him about?"

"I...I'm...pregnant...and he needs to know. Well...I guess you do too, since it'll curtail our sparring."

"James?"

Her face went crimson, "No other possibility."

Julien smiled, "Grandma Gemma will be pleased. She always loved you. Now...if he's not in his room where I left him...then he is probably in his lab. Perhaps had an epiphany about the code." Julien leaned over to his armoire, checking something with a pencil.

Marna smiled, "What was James' challenge word today?"

"Epiphany. Now, let me get a shirt on and some food to bring down to him."

Fifteen minutes later the two walked down the steps to James' lab, Marna insisting on carrying the tray.
