Chapter 38 by Johnrocker Johnrocker

The next morning...

Mid-day Breakfast

Mark was in the middle of scoffing down breakfast. It was past noon but he had only just gotten up about twenty minutes ago. He had so much in front of him, bacon, eggs, sausages, a side of waffles. Mark was eating like he hadn’t seen food in over a week.

Sitting across from him at the on-campus diner was Daniel who looked less than impressed. He sat with a stone cold face looking at the way he was shoving food down his throat.

“You know, I’d appreciate if you would shut your mouth while you ate,” he told him.

Mark swallowed what was currently in his mouth, “Fucking starving,” he mumbled out. His best friend just shook his head, trying not to take too much more notice of it.

As good as Mark’s Saturday night was, Daniel didn’t have the same type of luck. With his girlfriend not being able to make it here for the weekend due to the flu, Daniel was hoping to do something with Mark but instead he spent all his time sucking up to Bryce and fucking some freshman girl.

“Why you in such a bad mood?” Mark asked him with a mouthful of food, finally picking up on how annoyed he looked.

Daniel sighed, “It really doesn’t matter man. I just don’t get you though, you’ve spent all week moping about Tiff and then not even a week later, you’re banging some random slut.”

Mark put down his knife and fork, making a distinct clattering noise against his now mostly empty plate, “What do you want me to do? She doesn’t want to speak to me, I’ve got to move on. I can’t just wait forever.”

“What about Winter?” Daniel than asked him.

“What about her?”

“Where does she fit into all of this? Clearly she means something to you if you ruined your perfect relationship to sleep with her again. Why aren’t you spending time with her?”

They were all good questions that Daniel was asking for him. He had clearly seen a sudden change in both emotion and attitude from Mark. Not that it really meant that much to him but he was worried that this could really push his friend into a worrying direction.

“It’s too soon with Winter. She doesn’t want to be seen with me yet in public because of the fear of judgement or whatever and after last night, I’m open to exploring some options a little more. Last night was fucking fun man,” Mark explained to him before finishing the last of his breakfast.

Daniel shrugged, “Just be careful,” he told him, almost in a warning tone.

Whether he needed to be careful or not, Mark certainly wasn’t too worried about the idea of burning too many bridges. The words of Bryce from the night before were still ringing in his ears. For now, he was just going to take what he could and ignore the consequences.

What's next?
