Mesh Mission

As soon as Jeremy had fallen asleep, Alex came to. What had happened, what she had done?! She hadn’t felt like herself. She hadn’t behaved like herself. Whatever had occurred must have something to do with the mesh.

As Alex examined the mesh, trying to figure out its purpose, she heard a faint hum. She looked around, trying to find the source of the noise, and quickly realized that it was coming from inside her head. The hum grew louder and louder until it filled her ears, drowning out all other sounds. Alex panicked, reaching up to pull the mesh from her head, but it was too late. A blinding flash of light filled her vision, and she felt herself falling.

When she opened her eyes, Alex was no longer in her dorm room. She was in a strange, dimly lit chamber. The walls were made of a smooth, metallic material, and there were no visible doors or windows. Alex tried to stand up, but her legs felt weak and unsteady. As she looked around, she saw a figure moving towards her from the shadows.

"Welcome, human," the figure said in a voice that sounded both alien and mechanical at the same time. "You have been chosen to be our emissary, to bring our message to your kind."

Alex felt a mix of fear and excitement. She had always dreamed of making contact with alien life, but now that it was happening, she wasn't sure if she was ready for it.

"What message?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.

"The message of peace and cooperation," the figure replied. "We have been watching your planet for some time, and we have seen the destruction and chaos that your species has caused. We believe that it is time for a new era, one of harmony and understanding. And we believe that you, Alexandra, are the one who can help us achieve that."

Alex was taken aback. How did these aliens know her name? And why did they think she was the one to help them?

"How do I do that?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

"We have given you the means to communicate with us," the figure said, gesturing to the mesh on her head. "With it, you can transmit our message to your leaders and your people. But be warned, there are those who will resist our message, who will see us as a threat. It is up to you to convince them otherwise. We have also given you the tools to convince them."

Alex thought back to the events of the evening, to her sexual escapades as Candy. That must have been this new ability the figure was talking about. Maybe she wasn’t using it right, or maybe these aliens had different ideas on what it took to convince people.

“What if I don’t want to help? What if I want to have a normal life?”

“Your normal has been redefined,” the figure said, “and your mission is imperative. If you refuse, you will be doomed. Now go.”

The being waved a limb and the room faded away from around Alex.

As she felt herself being pulled back to her dorm room, Alex wondered if her life would ever be the same. She was no longer just a science fiction fan, no longer just a student. She was now an emissary, a messenger from another world, with a mission to save her own, whether she liked it or not.
