Chapter 24 by tantrikenetic
Who's at the door?
Meghan
"Meghan!" You hear Melody say. Meghan's here? I guess she's taken the initiative to come meet you. She knows what dorm you're at, she must have just found out what room you live in. You pause for a second as something occurs to you. How does Melody know her name? Or what she looks like for that matter?
"Melody!" You hear a voice that is definitely Meghan exclaim. "Wow! What an odd coincidence!"
"What are you doing here? Do you need Western Lit notes?" Melody asks. You cock and eyebrow. They have a class together?
"No, not today." Meghan laughs. "I'm actually looking for someone. All I know is the dorm...I guess I have the wrong room."
"Who is it, maybe I can help." Melody asks. You suddenly feel that it would be best if you got out there.
"His name is Jack." Meghan said. "We've got a hot date tonight." You hear nothing but stunned silence as you hurry out into the common area. "Are you okay, Melody? You look like you just saw a ghost." She looks past her as you walk in and Meghan's face turns to shock. "Jack...?" She asks softly. Melody suddenly whips around and you see she is pale and a look of morbid horror is on her face.
"Uhh...hi, Meghan." You say, suddenly feeling very awkward. Just what the Hell is going on?
"M-Meghan...she...she's..." Melody stammers, staring off to some point behind you as if she was spacing out.
"What...are you doing here?" Meghan asked softly, still in shock. You pause...is she worried you're sleeping with another girl?
"Don't freak out, Meghan. This is just my friend, Melody. I told you I had a female roommate, rememeber. This is her." You rub the back of your neck awkwardly. "I...guess you two have met."
"Melody....is your roommate?" Meghan asks slowly. Suddenly, her face goes as pale as your roommate's and her bottom lip quivers. "Oh, God...I...I didn't know..." She quickly turns to Melody. "Melody! I swear I didn't know...oh, God! I didn't mean to...I mean...I would never..."
"Meghan!" Melody exclaims in a high-pitched voice. "Shut up! Please!"
"What the fuck is going on here?" You ask in aggrevated confusion. "You two lost me like three conversations ago!"
Melody turns to face you and she looks absolutely terrified. It was a look you've never seen on her face before. She doesn't even look this scared during thunderstorms. "Jack..." She mutters your name, as if unable to say anything to you. Realizing you may not be able to get anything out of her, you turn of Meghan.
"Meghan, what is this all about?" You ask. "Why are you two acting like I'm wearing a bomb or something?"
"I...I..." She stammers, then turns away from you. "I'm sorry, Jack. I can't...I can't say. I have to...I have to go now."
"Wait! What about dinner?" You exclaim.
"Forget it, please." she said. "This...this isn't going to work out for me. We-we can't see each other anymore."
"What?" You ask in shock. Where was this coming from? "Meghan! I thought you said you really liked me! What's with the 180?"
She whips around and you can see tears in her eyes. "I...I just can't!" She cries out in pain. "I...I'm so sorry!" Then she runs from the open doorway, sobbing loudly. You just stand there, jaw agape. You look at Melody, who is still in horrified shock. What just happened?
You shake your head and decide to get it together before your indecision causes you to lose a big chance. You can either stay here and grill Melody about what just happened or run after Meghan before she can get away. But you can't do both.
Run after Meghan or stay with Jack?
