Meeting Dana

The next few days go by pretty smoothly. Christopher is working most of the time and Beth has some project she is working on and is gone most of the time. School doesn't start for another few weeks, so Kate and Cassie are the only ones around the house. We get along pretty good and I try do make myself useful around the house, to make a good impression.

Just as I'm putting some dirty plates in the dish-washer, because Kate had to run some errands, I hear voices in the hallway. As I turn my head I see Cassie and someone else coming into the kitchen. They are deep in conversation. When they spot me they stop talking. The girl with Cassie must be Dana. Cassie has mentioned her before, they're best friend and she actually lives next door.

The first impression I have of her is a positive one, she doesn't wear any make-up or sexy clothes, but that is what makes her look very natural and beautiful. Her strawberry blond hair and her nice figure makes her the perfect girl next door. There's no doubt in my mind that she could turn a lot of heads if she wanted to. But the way she avoids eye-contact, tells me she is a shy one. Just an average girl with no drama.

“Hi Cassie.” I greet them an continue packing the dish-washer. “Who's your friend?”

“John, this is Dana. I told you about her.” she says and throws Dana a perplexed look.

Turning back to them, I look at Dana one more time and reach out my hand.

“Nice to meet you Dana. I've heard some great things about you.” I tell her and she briefly shakes my hand, still avoiding eye contact. To get her to be a bit nicer, Cassie digs her elbow in Dana's ribs. Surprised by her friends action, she jumps a little and looses her balance. In the last second I manage to grab her hand and pull her towards me. With a reflex she lets her body fall against mine and slings her other arm around my waist. “You've made quite an impression.” Cassie tells me before she goes after her friend. After I look at the door for another minute I finish up my housework and go to my room. Luckily the next time I saw Dana, we managed to engage in a short but nice conversation and she was more relaxed around me.
