Meet the roommate

The door to Jur's dorm already had a piece of paper slotted in the right side of the name plate. It read Zivon in stylized block print with purple boarders giving apparent dimension.

Jur entered the room to disappointment. The algorithm the school used to pair students had decided to pair Jur with a spirit. Its name was Slavic, so maybe it was a Dolia, but Jur wasn't particularly familiar with the differences despite experience. It found spirits annoying since they typically didn't talk. This one looked like a balloon. Sometimes, portions would cave in and break the skin; the material would then billow up and reseal the membrane. Flits of insect wings appeared around it, but gave no indication how they might connect with the main body. Out of courtesy, Jur introduced itself rather than going to the registrar immediately for a room change.

"Good afternoon," The words whispered in Jur's mind. While mind alteration was prohibited on campus, using it for communication purposes were allowed, and Jur was glad it wouldn't have to parse out what Zivon meant by flashing blue, white, yellow, blue.

Jur extended its Shambling Mass tendrils tending to his luggage. "You made a nice name card."

"Thanks, I could make you one if you want."

"Yeah, okay. I didn't really have anything exciting in mind, so knock yourself out."

Zevon zooms to its desk to start Jur's card. "So, got any plans for tonight?"

"Well, there's that thing the college is putting on. Could be good to meet professors and some grad students. Although, I imagine most students would hit the bars instead. I figure I'll go wherever I end up walking. You?"

"Some guy told me the Kappas were having a pool party. Thought I'd check it out."
