Meet Vaarvel before your first mission together (Time -1)

You moved through the large office space, then rapped your knuckles upon the back door to summon Vaarvel. To your surprise, it didn't seem like anyone was going to answer... You had heard the Goodbye Girls didn't tend to socialize much, which had made you suspect they'd all be in their rooms regularly. You knocked once again, just to make sure she wasn't around.

A voice, bearing a rich, South African accent suddenly surprised you from behind. "Ah, the new Ciao... I was hoping to make your acquaintance, so I went to your office, then to the command room. I hadn't suspected you would come to find me. It is a welcome surprise."

You turned to face the woman, wondering why you hadn't heard a door open if she had indeed just come from the meeting room. Remembering your mission- to be suspicious of each of the girls- you put two and two together... Vaarvel was already lying to you. She'd been inside the room the whole time, likely hiding among the racks of clothes in plain sight. You asked her why she'd lied about her location.

"Ha ha ha... You're not as dull as your predecessor, I see," the woman smirked. Facing her was a bit frightening, due to her silver, skull-like face mask, slit just under the brow and around the mouth to reveal shining whites from both locations, both the eyes and the mischievous grin. Besides that, her outfit was mostly CEDIT issued spy gear in a dull gray color, though you thought to yourself that the tight-fitting catsuit and holster strapping across the chest gave a great view of her lithe but muscular form. Despite specializing in deception and face-to-face negotiations, Vaarvel was clearly no slouch in the gym either. The fit of her suit upon her toned, but spectacularly round and inviting bottom, moving into the shapely, leather-clad legs loved by all spy-movie buffs, made you anticipate working closely with her, despite Goodbye's warnings. "That was a test... and you passed! Just remember that with me, the tests never end."

The suspiciously masked woman reached out one hand to grab hold of the neck of your tie, then slowly ran from the top to the tip, freeing it from your where you'd tucked it into your smart, black jacket. "However... if you continue to pass those tests, I will reward you appropriately, Nathaniel Speck." It seemed she was going to take the lead on inappropriate touching... But it also alarmed you to realize she already knew your real name that Goodbye had told you to hide. "Well, don't take my intrusion personally. I make it my business to know everyone I work with, enemy or ally. Just stay on the right side of that line and you'll have nothing to fear from my snooping."

Despite the woman's knowledge and her surprisingly outgoing nature, you sensed that it would be deeply difficult to trust her... If any of the Goodbye Girls seemed suspicious and manipulative, it was her, who kept files on all of her companions' strengths and weaknesses. It occurred to you that if you could get your hands on those folders, you could make filling out the dossiers much, much easier for Goodbye.

You doubted you'd get your hands on those just yet, but you did need some more information from her. You questioned her designation from the dossier you'd read earlier... they called her "The Face" and mentioned she had skills at deception.

"Ah, yes. I'm a master of disguise, lies, misdirection, and trickery." Vaarvel shrugged her shoulders as she stepped a respectful foot back from you. "That little stunt I pulled earlier was more something that Tschau would ordinarily get up to. Truth be told, I'm not the type to hide in the shadows. My specialty is manipulating people through my dialogue and my wits. It may not sound like much of a talent, compared to that superhuman we call the Muscle, that tech genius, or a literal ninja, but among the four of us... I'm the one that has ended wars. And started them. I'm the one who sews the seeds of distrust throughout enemy organizations and I'm the one that causes them to doubt even their friends..."

You held back a gulp as it built in your throat. What a terrible person you'd encountered... to think that this assignment would have you trying to outplay a woman this crafty at her own game of deception caused you to want to retreat back to your old assignment in Europe.

"I look forward to testing you, Mister Speck... in many ways." The intimidating woman flashed another white grin from behind her heavy metal mask. {if Weakness for Gambling = 1}"And if you're ever looking for a game of cards, simply say my name. I enjoy a friendly wager. Though I suppose Goodbye told you about that?"

You felt yourself shudder and told her you'd take a raincheck on it.{endif}
