What's happening in the office?
May gives them news
The office no longer smelled of cleaning and power, but of a heavy, sweet incense that filled the air, making it hard to breathe. Magi walked in and found there, like reflections of her own unease, the pale faces of Cloe and Lara. They didn't greet each other; their gazes intertwined in a silence heavy with foreboding.
May, standing erect behind her desk like a spider at the center of her web, smiled with a false calm. "It's good that you're all here. I have some magnificent news." Her gaze settled on Lara, who avoided eye contact with the others, her eyes fixed on the carpet. "Lara already knows. She came by at noon to pay a debt. And, being the good girl she is, she agreed to collaborate with the promotion."
Magi then remembered the garish brochures Lara was handing out in the central hall, her tense smile, the way her bikini highlighted every curve under the harsh light. A chill ran down her spine.
"Those brochures," May continued, savoring each poisoned word, "offer something unique: an 'Elite' membership to access exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences at the aquarium." She made a dramatic pause, letting the meaning settle, slow and toxic, in the room. "The success of last night's event was so overwhelming, the demand so... fervent, that our benefactors are demanding more. Privileged access. And you, my dear stars, will be the personal hosts for these special activities. The founding partners are already eager to get to know you much, much more intimately."
Horror settled on the faces of Magi and Cloe with the **** of a glacial tide. Lara, at last, looked up. There was no pride in her eyes, only a profound resignation and a vestige of shame.
"But tonight is for celebrating!" May announced in a jovial tone that sounded grotesque. With a dull pop, she uncorked a bottle of cheap champagne. The gas bubbled like poison. She poured three glasses and extended them. Their hands trembled as they took them; it wasn't emotion, it was pure terror.
"Let's toast," May ordered, raising her glass. "To the great debut. Tomorrow, the first show begins."
Magi, mechanically, brought the glass to her lips. She took a bitter, sweet gulp. The cheap **** bubbled in her stomach, warming her with a false sense of heat. The fear was there, throbbing, an icy fist in her chest, but now it mixed with something darker, more dangerous: a terrible excitement and a twisted curiosity that both repelled and attracted her. How far would they go? What new abysses awaited them behind the velvet curtain of the "Elite membership"?
The silence that followed the toast was not one of complicity, but of an anticipated surrender. May placed her unused glass on the desk.
"Now, for the formal part," she said, her voice regaining its metallic hardness. "Every serious business requires a contract." She opened a drawer and took out three sheets of paper. "Sign at the bottom. It ensures your participation in any and all activities of the subscription, as designated by management. It guarantees discretion and... professional enthusiasm."
She slid the documents toward them. The confidentiality clause was a wall of legal text that isolated them from the world. The obligations clause was deliberately vague: "...the employee will lend herself to the interaction and experience activities designated for the satisfaction of the partner...". No matter how humiliating it was. It was all written.
"Sign," May repeated, extending a stylized pen, like a needle ready to inject its poison.
Lara was the first. She signed with a quick, trembling stroke, without even reading, anxious for the ceremony to end. Cloe, with silent tears streaming down her cheeks, gritted her teeth and stamped her name, staining the paper with a drop of champagne that fell from her glass.
Magi was the last. The pen weighed like iron in her hand. She looked at the defeated faces of the other two, then at May's impassive smile. She took a deep breath, the thick, incense-filled air burning her lungs. And she signed. The stroke was firm. A surrender.
May collected the contracts with a final, triumphant smile.
"Excellent. Now, go rest. The fun starts tomorrow. Remember: professional smiles. The partners pay for an authentic experience."
The three of them left the office, intoxicated by the incense and the cheap champagne, the signature on the contract burning in their consciences like a red-hot iron. The cage had closed. And now it had an elegant name: Elite Membership.
What is the first activity of the subscription?

Under the Surface
Chronicle of a Humiliation
Magi is a solitary and reserved young woman who prefers the company of books to people's company. With her untamable black hair, faint freckles, and loose-fitting clothes, she projects an image of practicality and comfort. Her large green eyes, though curious, avoid eye contact, revealing her introverted nature. Despite her serene appearance, a deep disquiet haunts her, anticipating an imminent and inevitable change that threatens to shatter the fragile balance of her quiet life.
