Matthew's estranged wife

Matthew can't help but grin as the doctor explained his wife's condition. They'd just agreed to separate--Matthew had grown tired of her constant nagging and controlling behaviors. But, of course, he was still her emergency contact so here he was, asked to bring her home and take care of her. And boy, were things going to change.

When Bethany comes out, she looks entirely unconcerned with her new diagnosis, although she does look annoyed to see him. Matthew's wife is a slender, stunning woman of Korean ancestry, dressed modestly in a pants-suit that fit her station as a highly successful corporate lawyer.

"Matthew," she says, "you really shouldn't have come. It's nothing to worry about, I can find my own way home."

"We called Matthew, Mrs. Brown, it's true that you condition isn't life threatening, but we insist that someone close to you give you a ride home and keep a close watch on you while you go through a period of adjustment."

"Close? Matthew?!? We..." she begins, but Matthew interrupts.

"Are as close as two people can be, given all we've been through together."

"Yes, that's true," she says, without hesitation, as if she hadn't been about to say the exact opposite a moment ago. _It's real! This is going to be fun, _he thinks.

They leave without another word, while Matthew tries to think about how he can take advantage of this scenario.
