Chapter 2 by 0hffe 0hffe

Who comes across these machines? And where?

Mark and Ashley, Abandoned Casino

''Mark we shouldn't be her, what if someone calls the cops'' Ashley was speaking in hushed tones as tthey crept through the dark hallways, Marks phone dimly lighting the way

''Don't worry about it. This whole place is a ghost town'' Mark said, turning to talk straight to her as he walked backwards along the hall

''Whoa!'' He shouted out as he tripped, falling onto his ass. sending his phone scattering across the floor, landing light side up

''Mark! Are you okay?'' Ashley said, cautiously making her way forwards in the dark hall

''Yeah, I'm fine'' Mark said, grumbling as he stood up, moving cuatiously to grab his phone. Turning it to light back towards Ashley.

His jacket hung loosely over the shoulders of her slender frame, dark skin contrasting the orange fabric of the parka, which usually only saw use during camping trips. One hand coming up to block the light as the phone shone towards her, blocking her cute face from view, big round eyes half closed into a tight squint

''You're gonna blind me with that thing''

''Right, sorry, you look cute in that though'' He said, with a bit of a chuckle

''I look like a traffic cone, thanks to your your big dumb coat'' She motioned down drawing attention to how it hung halfway down her thighs, her short stature not helping, barely being over 5ft.

''A cute traffic cone'' He joked, then noticing something on the floor in front of her.

Lighting it up with the phone, he could see it was a brush handle, laying across the ground. Lighting along it's length he saw where it had fallen from.

It seemed to be the entry to a maintenance room.

He stepped inside, ushering Ashley in behind him

''I don't know Mark, It's really dark in there'' She was holding onto the door frame as he dissapeared out of sight behind some of the shelves in the room, leaving her in near absolute darkness ''Mark!'' she shouted annoyed that he left her in the dark

''Got it!'' He shouted out.

The lights flickered before coming on, illuminating everything in a warm orange glow

Ashleys eyes widened at the view before her, the fancy hallway coming into view and surprisingly looking sparkling clean ''Wow, this place is beautiful inside'' She said, taking in the sight.

''Why the hell could they not put some windows in though?'' She said, exhasperated at having had to struggle their way to this point despite the sunlight still offering the warm glow of dusk outside.

''Messes with peoples sense of time, makes sure they don't realise how much of it they're spending losing their money'' Mark said, stepping into view

As he stepped out into the doorway of the maintenance room, Ashley enjoyed the sight of her tall boyfriend, leaning forwards, with his hands on either side of the door frame. Stubble on his angular chin and along his strong jaw, a big and slightly crooked nose being his most dominating facial feature

''You okay out here?'' Her asked as he made eye contact with Ashley.

''Yeah, fine. So what did you drag me out here for anyway?'' She crossed her arms pouting at him slightly.

''Ash, look at this place!, we've got it all to ourselves'' Mark stepped closer to her, wrapping one hand over her shoulders and waving his hand toward the fancy casino hallway ''You can't tell me this isn't amazing''

Admiring the beautifully decorated hall, she had to admit her had a point, but there was still something nagging at her.

''I guess, but it doesn't feel right, why would people abandon somewhere like this?''

Mark walked backwards in front of her, shrugging ''It's a casino, probably debt or something, come on, i'm gonna check if we can find some room keys''

Ashley set aside the nagging feeling and followed Mark as he made his way down the hall and pushed open a large set of double doors, leading out into the main hall and game room. She was amazed at all the tables and machines she saw, with some she didn't even recognize along side the regular poker and wheel of fortune. wandering through room, she came across a line of slot machines, all lit up and flashing, just begging for someone to play them. The most bizarre thing about them being that they were shorter than usual, with armchairs in front of them instead of stools

''Hey Ash, you coming, I'm gonna see what these keys open?'' Mark said, jangling the shiny keys next to his head.

Feeling the soft fabric of tha chair, she pulled off the bright orange parka and handed it back to Mark ''You go, I'm gonna get comfy here''

Marks shoulders droppes as he took the parka, throwing it over his shoulder ''You sure? I mean, some of these rooms have some pretty huge beds'' He lay one hand on her hip as he leaned in close to her for a kiss

Ashley put her hand on the center of his chest, pushing him back ''And I'll be happy to join you if you can find one, you don't even know where those keys are for''

''You'll be in here all alone, in an abandoned building'' He said, raising his arms in an impression of any number of generic B movie monsters

''I'll be fine, now have fun on your treasure hunt'' she stood up on her tip toes and kissed him on the cheek, waving him on, watching as he walked away before turning back to the machine, fascinated by the shining lights.

She reached forwards and pulled the lever

What does she get?
