Maria sees something

As we continued to wander around we seemed to get a little off track and started to get into some of the rougher areas that I had mentioned to Maria.

Maria didn't seem too worried about this detour and was looking around at the rundown houses till we turned into an alleyway with a homeless guy sitting on the ground. Maria was a little surprised and I suggested we double back and head the opposite way but Maria shushed me and we continued towards this guy.

He was very grubby looking and the alleyway that we had wondered to was really off the beaten track from everyone else walking around. As we got closer I could see that he was looking at Maria and he seemed confused to see a sexy girl walking through his makeshift house.

We got within a few meters of him and I gave him a good look over. He was incredibly dirty with grime covering his face and hands. He was wearing shorts with holes and a t-shirt which was blue once upon a time. He had greyish brown hair and a bushy stubble across his face. It was difficult to say but I would guess that he was in his 60s but he looked older than that.

We got right up to him when Maria squatted down to get face to face with him and asked him if he was ok. I was surprised that she would do this but quickly realised that he didn't speak any English.

Maria looked up at me and asked me to translate to Italian. I obliged and both he and Maria stood up so we were all face to face.

He explained that he was homeless and that he had been living on the streets for the last 20 years. He had recently been kicked out of his squat where he had been living and just found this little alley which was not so bad as it was summer and there was no rain.

He explained that he was not so badly off as he sold magazines and so made a bit of money to afford a bit of food. He swore that he never took **** and only drank a little. I looked over and saw a couple of bottles of whiskey around.

Maria really seemed to be sympathetic to this guy and moved closer to him as he told his story and I translated for her. He gave some more details of his day to day life but I noticed that he was shooting glances at Maria's body as he spoke.

I decided that maybe it was time to wrap this up and continue back to the main streets. I suggested to Maria that we give some money and move on.
