Who Does He Meet First
Margaret Hurley, His Boss
I showed up an hour before I was expected at Rival, much to the chagrin of my boss. Ms. Hurley, I’m David Hutson!”
I don’t know what she was expecting but from the first words out of her mouth, it made me think I might not be having much trouble with her.
“Well aren’t you a darling?” From her seat behind her desk, she looked me over from head to toe, before getting up and coming to the door and holding her hand out to shake. “Here I was expecting some old stuffy suit and tie obese prick”
I wasn’t sure if I should feel complimented or insulted. But even before I could say anything, She took my hand, shook it, then took me by the elbow and brought me into her office, closing the door with the heel of her right foot. All the blinds were already drawn. I expected that she was going to ask me about my qualifications, then make me fill out the necessary paperwork.
Instead she sat back down, let her fingers fly over her keyboard and turned the monitor around to me. There on the screen was everything already filed in on the immediate worker file sheet.
“Now the only thing I’ll need is your home number and cell phone number, in case I need to get a hold of you in an emergency!”
I racked my mind and couldn’t think of a single time I had to be called, in an emergency but I gave her the numbers she wanted. I noticed that my address was left blank, so without asking I supplied it, she typed it in then burst out.
“Oh my god you are the new person in the old Ford place!” Pausing then “I’m in number 69, three doors up from you on the right side of the street!”
I swear I had no idea that my new boss lived that close to me, nor why she thought I needed to know that. With everything done, she called for the second guard to come and take me to my new position cubicle. I had just settled in when my cell phone went off. Swiping it on I see that I had a new message with attachment.
It was from Ms. Hurley and I immediately searched my mind for what she could possibly want that she called my cell phone instead of my cubicle extension. Opening the message, I was surprised that it was personal and not job related.
“I should have done this when we were in my office, but if you are lonely and since you are new to Fremont Street, feel free to contact me for anything.” Then in huge letters, “AND I DO MEAN ANYTHING- SEE ATTACHMENT!”
I opened the attachment and what I saw made me drop my phone and stand there stunned with an open mouth!
How Do I Continue?
