Make it count

There’s way too many of them and Hinako is doing her best to keep them at bay. “I’m out!” she screams. That’s when you feel it. A cold dread hits the pit of your stomach and it runs up your spine. The monsters that were steadily advancing towards you now stop and are backing away. You feel a big one coming and it’s coming from the wall behind you. You turn slowly, doing everything you can to keep from curling into a ball and stare in horror as the biggest one yet emerges from the wall. What’s worse, Hinako doesn’t notice it and is now backing towards it. “HINAKO! LOOK OUT!” Too late. You watch in horror as a tentacle wraps around Hinako’s waist and lifts her into the air. She screams and feebly whacks at it with the hammer. You frantically look around for a mask and to your dismay you don’t see one on it. Instead you aim for the base of the tentacle and fire. You manage to sever it the tendril turns to liquid and she falls screaming to the ground. She manages to land on her feet and is immediately bolting away while another tendril swipes at where she was standing moments before. A searing pain roars through your head as you feel the monster’s rage and it starts to morph before your eyes. By the time Hinako reaches your side, it’s morphed into some kind of four legged creature and is slowly turning from black to orange. It’s “head” grows two pointy ears and instead of a snout, a mask emerges from its flat “face.” A large bushy tail grows out of it’s back with a white tip. Instead of fur, it has spines like a porcupine and tentacles are flailing wildly from its back. What stands before you now is a 10 foot tall fox from hell and all you’ve got is an empty shotgun and a dinky little sword.

The screams return now and are attacking your willpower.  You feel frozen in place as the monster takes a step forward with a massive clawed paw and let’s out a massive roar that seems to puncture your very being.  “What do we do now?” Hinako is looking at you.  You know this is it.  There is no way you and Hinako can take this thing on and you can’t outrun something that big.  You look into Hinako and see the hope in her eyes.  That’s when it hits you.

THOU ART I. . .

That influx of power you felt when you first made love to Hinako comes rushing back into you.  It fills you up to the brim and you can feel it spill out of you.  You can hear the ringing again but while it was shrill and piercing before, now it’s pleasant and in tune, like a properly struck chord.  They keep the malice away and you are able to stand strong.

AND I AM THOU. . .

You give Hinako a quick kiss and assure her everything will be alright and to trust you.  You then walk towards the monster with your head high.  Your hand now holds the key to your salvation, a small glass egg, and within that egg a blue flame glows, brimming with untapped power.  Just waiting for your word to emerge and serve you.

SAY THY NAME AND SEAL OUR CONTRACT. . . 

You hold the egg before you and whisper the name that you’ve known all your life but could never describe until now.

If Hinako could see you face, she would see a wild look in your eyes and a ghostly smile on your face as you finish.
