Chapter 6 by reaper13
How do you 'convince' the girl?
Make her think you 'saved' her life
The easiest way to win her for yourself, you figured, was to save her life. Unfortunately there was no immediate threat, so you'd have to try and put her into a life threatening situation, preferably without her knowing it was you who did it.
That's when it hit you. You had an incendiary bomb in your satchel. Basic equipment for an ****. Fires were very good at drawing attention away from your target. When nobody was looking, you took it out, armed it, put it on the ground and rolled it a couple of tables further. There were some drunk men over there which had done nothing but make noise and harass the voluptuous barmaid. Nobody would miss them.
Of course, you couldn't allow your lovely barmaid to be near that specific table when it went off, so you called her over. You waved your hand and motioned her to you. She came to your table and asked "Can I get something for you?"
"Yes, I would like ..." you started to say, but from the corner of your eyes you saw one of the drunks pick up the bomb you rolled in their direction and held it up.
You jump forward and pushed your barmaid over only just in time. The incendiary exploded and engulfed the drunks in flames. When you and the barmaid stood up again the tavern was on fire.
Some of the other patrons panicked and ran away.
The barmaid herself however ran to the kitchen to collect a bucked of water. After throwing it on the fire she ran back for more. You joined her, making her believe you were the closest ally she had at that point. However two people carrying buckets would not be able to douse a wildfire. Despite the water being thrown on it, it kept growing bigger. Black smoke was filling the place and it was getting difficult to breathe.
You waited until the barmaid fell down coughing. Then you picked her up and said "We have to leave."
"But my tavern ..."
"It's too late, the tavern is already lost."
You picked her up and ran with her to an open window. You threw her out first, then followed after her.
You sat with her while you watched her tavern burn. She was crying and sniveling the whole time. Morning came and the tavern had turned into a smoldering pile of ashes. She was still there, still crying.
You chose to break the silence.
"That tavern meant a lot to you, didn't it?"
"It belonged to my parents." She said. "I grew up in it. When my parents died it was the only thing I had left. Now I have nothing any more."
"My condolences."
You allowed a moment of silence, to let things sink in a bit, then you told her. "You know, you can't sit here forever."
She turned to you and asked. "What else am I to do?"
"Start a new life. Build a new tavern somewhere else. Or perhaps something completely different then being a barmaid."
"But where?" she asked you.
"Well, I happen to be living in a mansion. I'm sure I can help find you work. Who knows, maybe you can straighten up the local tavern that's near my place."
"You would do that for me?"
"Yeah, of course."
The former barmaid then hugged you and said "Thank you. Thank you for everything."
You hugged her back and smiled. Your plan had worked. Now all you had to do was bring her to your mansion, and you could have all kinds of 'games' with her.
Which path do you take to travel?
