Chapter 17 by Herrin26 Herrin26

What's next?

Magical Creature.

As she reached down to pick it up, she heard a low growl from the thicket behind her. Draco was by her side in an instant, his eyes flashing with alarm. The sound grew louder, and the underbrush parted to reveal a creature that seemed to have been born from their darkest nightmares. It was a grotesque blend of a wolf and a serpent, with teeth as long as her fingers and eyes that burned like embers.

"Fenrir," Draco murmured, his voice tight with fear. "We have to run."

Ginny didn't need to be told twice. She snatched her wand and sprinted after Draco, her legs burning with the effort of pushing through the thick vegetation. The creature's growl grew closer, the ground shaking with the thud of its monstrous paws. They could hear the snapping of branches as it pursued them, a relentless **** of nature that seemed to have been conjured by the very island itself to test their survival instincts.

The adrenaline pumped through their veins as they dashed through the jungle, the fear of the unknown pushing them to new heights of speed. Ginny's mind raced, trying to recall any spells that might be effective against such a creature. But the rules of the island played cruel tricks on them, and she knew that the most complex incantations would be beyond their reach.

They burst into a clearing, the moonlight casting a silver glow over the damp earth. Draco's hand grabbed hers, his grip firm and reassuring as he tugged her towards a towering tree with thick, sturdy branches.

"Climb," he urged, his eyes never leaving the snarling beast that was gaining on them.

Ginny didn't hesitate. She scaled the tree with the agility of a cat, her bare feet finding purchase on the rough bark. Draco followed closely behind, his muscles straining. The creature, a terrifying blend of wolf and serpent, paused at the base of the tree, panting heavily, its eyes never leaving theirs. Ginny's wand was in her hand, her knuckles white as she clutched it tightly.

"It can't climb," Draco panted, his breaths coming in short gasps.

The creature snarled, its serpentine tail lashing the ground. Ginny's heart hammered against her ribs as she pulled herself onto a thick branch, her legs dangling. Draco settled beside her, his chest heaving. They watched as the beast paced, its eyes gleaming in the moonlight.

"What do we do now?" Ginny whispered, her voice shaking.

"We wait. Actually grab some branches and sharpen them. I got an idea." Draco said.

They both took to the task, their fear turning into determination as they worked together. Draco worked with surprising speed and precision, his focus unwavering as he transformed a handful of branches into makeshift spears. He handed one to her, their fingers brushing for a brief moment, sending a jolt of warmth up her arm.

"Okay cast depulso. On the sticks aimed at that thing. Hopefully with enough **** to take care of out new friend down there." He said.

Ginny nodded, pointing her wand at the sharpened end of the branch and muttered the incantation under her breath. The branch grew warm in her hand, and she felt the magic surge through it. She took a deep breath and threw the makeshift spear, her wand still pointing at it. The branch shot through the air with a speed that belied its wooden nature, embedding itself in the creature's shoulder.

The creature howled in pain and anger, recoiling from the tree. Draco took his chance, launching his own spear. It hit the creature in its eye, and with a roar, it stumbled back, shaking its head to dislodge the wooden shaft. Ginny and Draco watched in horror as the beast thrashed around, blinded by the pain. They had hurt it, but they hadn't killed it.

"Quick," Draco whispered, his eyes gleaming with a fierce determination. "We need to finish this."

They didn't waste a moment. Ginny grabbed another sharpened stick, her wand trembling slightly as she aimed for the creature's exposed neck. Draco nodded in approval, and together, they sent the two remaining spears hurtling through the air. They hit their mark, the wooden tips piercing the creature's flesh with a sickening thunk.

The beast let out an unearthly screech, its body contorting in a macabre dance of pain and rage. The sound echoed through the jungle, sending a chill down Ginny's spine. They watched as it stumbled backward, tripping over its own legs, before collapsing to the ground with a thud that seemed to shake the very foundation of the island.

For a moment, there was silence. The creature lay still, its monstrous form a twisted shadow beneath the moonlit canopy. Ginny and Draco held their breath, their eyes locked onto the beast, waiting for any sign of movement. When none came, Draco whispered a spell to light their path, and they carefully descended the tree, their legs wobbly from the exertion and fear.

"Bloody Hell." She climbed down and found herself hugging him. "Brilliant idea."

Draco wrapped his arms around her, his body warm and comforting against her own. "We make quite the team, don't we, Weasley?"

Ginny pulled away, a smirk playing on her lips. "I never thought I'd say this, but yes, Malfoy, we do." She kissed him gently. "Dont let it go to your head."

They stepped away from the lifeless creature, the stench of its **** lingering in the air. Draco took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. "You think any part of that thing is edible?"

Ginny wrinkled her nose. "I'm not that hungry."

Draco chuckled despite the grim situation. "Fair enough. Let's get back to the cave."

They made their way back through the jungle, their naked forms moving silently through the foliage. The moon provided enough light for them to navigate, their heightened senses a gift from the fear that still hummed in their veins. The adrenaline slowly subsided, leaving behind an unexpected feeling of camaraderie. They had faced a creature that could have easily torn them apart, and they had done it together.

Their footsteps grew heavier as they approached the cave that had become their temporary refuge. The fire from earlier had burned down to embers, casting a warm glow across the cave's entrance. Ginny couldn't help but feel a sense of homecoming, despite the primitive conditions. It was a stark reminder of how much they had come to rely on each other in such a short time.

Inside the cave, they collapsed onto the makeshift bed of leaves and furs, their bodies entwined in a tapestry of exhaustion and relief. Draco's hand found hers, and she didn't pull away. Their breaths synchronized as the tension of the day began to melt away.

She laid her head on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart, feeling the rise and fall of his chest with each breath. The warmth from the fire danced across their skin, a stark contrast to the coolness of the cave floor beneath them. Ginny's eyes grew heavy as the adrenaline of their encounter with the creature dissipated, leaving behind a bone-deep fatigue.

"We should get some sleep," she murmured, her voice thick with exhaustion. "We've got another day of this to look forward to."

Draco nodded, his arm tightening around her. "We'll take turns keeping watch," he said, though his eyes were already drooping.

Ginny didn't argue. She knew he was right. They couldn't let their guard down, not even for a moment. As they lay there, the fire crackling in the background, she couldn't shake the feeling that the island was watching them, testing them. The thought sent a shiver down her spine, but she was too tired to voice it aloud.
