Chapter 3 by FallenSaint FallenSaint

What Else is there to know?

Magic and Abilities

This world has several different forms of magic and abilities. I'll start listing what magics are available to which characters as it becomes known in throughout the story. Venus starts with know magical abilities, though she knows of magic and some of its effects. Elves are a rare race and practice most forms of magic, but like humans, most of them shun Necromancy and view it as an abomination.

Magic: More to come

Elemental:

Elemental magic is fairly balanced in offensive and some defensive abilities, depending on how it is used. This form of magic manipulates the elements (Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, Light, and shadows.) To either attack or defend. This school of magic is often confused with some of the abilities from geomancy, because they can have some similarities. The limits of this school is set only by the imagination of the mage using it.

Geomancy:

This is a spiritual form of magic. The wielder of this school communicates with spirits in the land, both benevolent and evil, to create effects from their surroundings. A skilled geomancer can even use the spirits of the land to see traces of people and creatures that have passed through the area. Geomancers are often solitary people, living off the land and find peace in nature.

Life:

Also known as Curative, this magic is the only magic that can heal wounded and sick people. Life magic is meant to protect. It can be used to create barriers, heal sicknesses and wounds, and badly damage undead monsters. Unfortunately, Life magic can't bring someone back to life.

Necromancy:

Also known as **** Magic, Necromancy focuses on the darker aspects of magic. Necromancers often use their corrupted powers to reanimate corpses and skeletons to create Zombies, Drauger, Ghosts, Ghouls, and other types of lesser undead. This magic can also be used to spread sicknesses, weaken enemies through causing different statues effects (Blindness, paralysis, poison) and is also used for curses.

NOTE: Stronger undead such as Liches, Revenants, and the spirit Wraith, are not created through Necromancy. These powerful undead are created when their deaths are not strong enough to keep their evil souls from continuing to be a blight upon the world. After a time, these undead come back on their own and are created from strong evil people. Vampires are undead as well, but they spread through biting, not through Necromancy as well.

Nature Magic:

This school of magic is similiar in some ways to Geomancy as well because the wielder uses the surroundings to fight and defend himself. Nature magic, unlike Geomancy, can only be used outside of villages, with the exception of Elven forest glades. Nature magic focuses mostly on trees and plants. A stick can grow to become a staff in the hands of a Nature mage.

NOTE: This is a favorite of Elves, but not their only magic.

Runic, Symbolism, Heraldic:

A form of magic with many names, depending on the region. This magic is useful for enhancing the abilities of items and people. When bestowed on items, they can make things such as the "Plenty Flask" that Zixar gives Venus, that will never run out of magic wine. Weapons can be given special attributes through runic magic so that when drawn they are given elemental properties or can cut through stone.

When used on people (Such as when the Goblins bestow the blacklock tattoos on Venus) it can increase speed, strenth, healing, and sometimes bring out magic potential. Often this use has drawbacks, such as increased fertility.

NOTE: Dwarves are a rare race in this world and rarely leave their underground homes. They have little magical power, but are very skilled with Heraldic magic. Many dwarven items have some form of Heraldic enchantment.

Shamanism:

Shamanism is a mixture of Life, Necromancy, Geomancy and Nature magic. most of the spells used by shamans are supportive because shamans rarely join a battle. The Role of a Shaman is to guide his people and use ritual forms of magic to try to get glimpses of their tribe's future. Shamans sometimes learn other forms of magic, but since they already dabble in four different schools, they rarely need to master any one form.

Creature and Beast magic:

Many monsters have abilities that are hard to classify since only one or two races can acutally use them. Some examples would be transformation and the Satyrs' ability to brew magic wine. Some humans are able to learn creature magic, but it is a rare gift. That type of ability is known as "Beast Magic" for the few humans that can use it.

Abilities: (More to come)

Sword Arts:

Sword Arts is a type of ability that can replicate the effects of Runic magic on weapons for a short time. Elemental or special attributes will be applied to the weapon for one or two attacks before it goes away and the ability must be activated again. This is similiar to "Enhance," a skill that strengthens the body and increases reflexes for the user. This ability is also short term.

Enhance:

See above for similiar description, but without the elemental abilites.

Animalism:

This ability lets the user communicate with animals and often animals will come to the aid of someone with this ability.

Telepathy and other mental abilities:

These are talents of an advanced mind. The ability to lift, move, create, and destroy without touching or using magic. This is a terrifying ability, often driving its user insane from strain on the brain.
