Madeline Wakes Up at the Old Mormon Fort

Madeline felt the pain rushing to her forehead first, her temples ached as she slowly regained conciseness. She felt like just opening her eyes was an impossibility, but slowly she managed to open them wide. She barely remembered what had happened and was thankful it was mostly a blur. A blur--just like her vision. Slowly things started to come together in her mind, but where where was she?

As she regained her vision she noticed she was in a bed, had she been captured? Her arms were free and her vision finally took in her surroundings. She was in...a tent? She had relatively clean looking sheets over her and a bandage or two. The tent flap suddenly moved and while Madeline wanted to startle, she was too weak to even flinch.

"Oh you're awake?" a tall woman with dark tanned skin and short dirty blonde hair said. "I'm glad you finally came to. Don't worry, everything will be okay."

Madeline tried to speak but couldn't muster the strength to move. The apparent doctor noticed the effort.

"Save your strength." She said as he comforted Madeline, grabbing a stimpack and applying it to Madeline's battered wrist. "Get some sleep."

Time passed and eventually Madeline came to again. This time there was the short haired blonde woman, and a man with short light blonde hair, glasses and a lab coat. They were busy talking to each other and were interrupted by Madeline's slow thanks.

"Than...thank....you." She said gaining a little more energy than she had before. "Where...Where am I?"

"Look at you, perking up quickly." the very tanned blonde female said with a practiced smile. "I am April Martimer, and this is Arcade Gannon--we are with the Followers of the Apocalypse."

"Who?" Madeline said confused.

"You haven't heard of us?" April said rather shocked.

"Of course she hasn't hear of us April, she is from a vault." the man, apparently named Arcade said.

"How--how do you--" Madeline wondered how the man could have known. Before she could even inquire he answered her question.

"Dr. Martimer, this woman has a Birth Control Chip inhibitor, I found it in my initial scan." He said smugly "That is vault technology. "

"Is that right?" The female doctor asked Madeline questioningly.

Madeline nodded.

"Well it doesn't matter where you are from, the Followers of the Apocalypse are sworn to help anyone who needs it." She smiled again. "And who are you?"

Madeline, seeing that these people did not seem to intend her any harm considering their medical care explained who she was, and that she was from a vault far to the south.

"I was studying to be a doctor." Madeline said "Though I didn't finish my training completely before leaving the vault."

"Well, you need to rest and recover before you can move on. Take your time. Maybe you can pitch in around here if you would like. We won't hold it against you if you don't..." April Martimer said with a pained look "But we could used every bit of help we can. Now rest."

Madeline was left alone to recover and as time passed and she grew stronger she had to make a decision.
