Madeline Rejects McLafferty's Offer

"I'm sorry then." Madeline sighed heavily "Not something I can do."

"Sorry to hear that." McLafferty's face went hard "Well--there is the door, you are free to use it."

Madeline left. She still had some pride in her rejection. But Janet wasn't going to be pleased. Neither would Jack. Madeline sought out Janet and gave her the bad news.

"Sorry, there was just nothing I could do." Madeline said.

"I understand." Janet said, disappointment in her voice. "Maybe I can get out there one day if he is still waiting for me."

"I am sure you will." Madeline said comfortingly. "Well I must head back to Nellis. Good luck with everything. Again--I am sorry."

"Yeah I know. Good Luck yourself. Tell Jack I would have come if I could have." Janet said as the two parted ways.

Madeline headed back to Nellis and gave Jack the bad news. He was very upset and moaped around. This certainly didn't improve things with the Boomers.
