Mad As a Hatter: Alternate ending

"Why are you doing this?" Alice retreated in horror as a brawl broke out in her apartment.

Jervis grabs Alice's arm and spins her around to face him, taking advantage of the battle taking the Batman's attention.

"For Us my dearest" Jervis looks imploringly into the young girls eyes he flicks his fingers pulling one of his control cards from it's hiding place in his sleeve "Oh believe me, I diddn't want it... this way" He reaches his hand around her head and delicately places the card behind her ear.

With a buzzing beep the light leaves Alice's eyes as her thoughts are instantly replaced with programming, she obediently closes her eyes and slumps into Jervis' arms and placidly allows him to carry her out of the apartment. Jervis looks over his shoulder watching his Walrus and Carpenter disguised minions fighting Batman, He did not see much chance of them actually emerging victorious but they had bought him enough time for this escape.

He gently placed the empty shell of the woman he loved into the waiting cab and climbed into the seat next to her. She opened her now blank and expressionless eyes as Jervis commands the mind controlled cab driver to leave.

"How did Batman find us so quickly? I only completed this technology yesterday and the only time I used it was on our lovely date last night..."Jervis pondered

He spends a moment of concentration on his headband to send a command to Alice to answer

"He mentioned Dr Cates and Billy when he arrived" She replied mechanically with none of her usual bubbliness.

"Indeed he did, I was reckless, I had hoped that getting them out of our way would have been enough, that you would have seen how perfect we were together on your own but now this..." He placed his hand gently on her face "Anyway we don't have much time, the worlds greatest detective will be hot on our heels, we need to get to Storybook Land and prepare.... no, there's no way a detective of his caliber would fail to make that connection fast enough for us to properly prepare. Alice tell me some destinations you believe I would never think of going."

"Metropolis, Jump city, Star city, Gateway City, Smallville..." Alice roboticaly parroted down a list

"Where is Smallville, I've never heard of it?" Jervis mused

"It's in Kansas, I stopped there for a burger once" Alice replied obviously responding to Jervis's unspoken commands to attempt to emulate her previous personality, of course the moment his concentration lapsed Alice's artificial expression faded and she resumed her lifeless zombielike demeanor.

Jervis pondered for a moment, His first instinct was to head to Gotham Storybook Land, the place where that magic moment happened when it seemed like a lifetime of lonliness and rejection was finally going to reach it's happy ending. The place where he had gathered all the people he had "convinced" to help him last night and this afternoon for one last **** battle for love, but this was Gotham and the one defense he had, his anonymity in the eyes of the city's vigilantes was lost. He had to assume Batman and his various bat children knew everything about him including his penchant for Victorian fiction and it's accoutrements.

"Driver change course to the private airstrip north of the harbor district" He commanded, giving up his hopes for the perfect victory in exchange for the good enough he currently had, While he would have preferred the lively vivacious Alice from the office had willingly accepted his offer for a fairy tale life, the living doll sitting beside him was not entirely without her own charms and was beginning to grow on him. Together they would dissapear into the night, use the hour or so the detective would spend investigating Storybook Land to fly off somewhere for a new beginning, the only question now is where to...
