Chapter 3 by GyroscopicGraphite GyroscopicGraphite

Who "stumbles upon" the watch?

Mack N. Tosh, college senior

"I'll take 'Historical figures' for 400," spoke the TV. Mack, however, couldn't care less, as he was preoccupied with matters of much greater intrigue. Just a couple of minutes ago, he recieved a knock on the door, only to be greeted with a strange fabric package labeled 'Fragments of Desire: [Golden Glare]'. He picked it up and looked it over. It was jet black, soft, and filled his entire hand. The material reminded him of expensive jewelry casings and the fact that it seemed to open like a wedding ring box only furthered that idea.

Mack opened it to find a shining golden pocket watch seemingly ripped out of the early 1900's, complete with a glimmering chain. He opened the cover to find a folded up note and that not only did the watch work, but it was somehow on time as well. The note read in sky blue ink that he could've sworn was glowing;

"May whomever recieves this watch be warned that it carries the power to fully enthrall all who gaze upon its uncovered surface. May they also be warned that they while they may not be afflicted by their new power, there is no stopping the consequenses of actions."

Back in present times, Mack had various screws, screwdrivers, and a small flashlight layed out on the table in front of him. Like most sane people, he wouldn't just believe that the watch had some sort of magic power. Unlike most sane people, Mack was a semester away from getting a degree in engineering and enjoyed taking apart and putting together various contraptions in his spare time, and so felt qualified to deconstruct the watch.

Unfortunately for Mack, he was not, in fact, qualified to deconstruct the watch. As soon as he opened the inside, he found a series of advanced mechanisms and systems which, as anyone who had ever seen the inside of any clock could guess, were almost certainly not for telling time. He also found what appeared to be a crystal with etchings on it, which further cemented the idea that he was not the expert here. Deciding that maybe the watch really was more than just a pretty watch, he closed it up, screwed everything back into place, closed the cover (just in case) and pondered what to do next.

What to do next?
