Chapter 28
by Vain
Once again it's up to Jack to make his decision...
Looks like they're having some barbecue
"Sorry, Kim..." Said Jack eventually, and shook his head as he figured it was better to stay at home for evening, rather than spending their time and money on some match which he was just barely interested in himself. At least he knew that his youngest daughter wasn't one to sulk about things for long, and so it seemed like the better decision to do what the other preferred. "I hope we got all the stuff for a barbecue though?"
"Yes, of course!" Catherine smiled at him, as if it was the most obvious thing world, while Jennie looked just a little bit more uncertain. They did have the grill somewhere in the garage, which was one of those reasons why there wasn't any room for the car, but they hadn't used it yet since last year, and Jack wasn't sure they had any fuel for it.
The food was another problem, but apparently someone had been thoughtful enough to hide both steak and some other essentials in the freezer, which meant they were good to go when Jack had found some coal behind all the other things inside the garage. Just for once it seemed like the girls were willing to do some work though, and so he could simply stay back and keep an eye on them, while they tried to learn how to use the grill.
Kim and Jennie would soon give up however, as their older sister was trying to boss them around like usual, and so ended up tending to the fire by herself. She did seem to have a good hand with the fire and cooking at least, which was apparently due to her working in the cafe, even if Jack couldn't quite remember her mentioning that they used to do some grilling as well as ordinary sandwiches.
Meanwhile the others got started in the kitchen, even if that too was usually Catherine's domains when it came to bread and salads, but it really wasn't something they could fail at anyways. Thus it wasn't long at all before they were getting ready to eat, and only then did they realize they'd been so eager to get started, that they'd finished much earlier than their usual time for dinner.
"We could always have some snacks later..." Jennifer suggested, implying that they'd spend most of the evening in front of the television, while Kate proposed something cold instead, to go with staying outside in the sun for as long as possible. Either way they couldn't wait with the food until later, and so they had their barbecue first, and then spent another hour or two by the pool.
The weather was certainly too fine for staying indoors, but at the same time it was getting just a little bit much for Jack to watch his daughters sit around in their skimpy bikinis all day, and so he wasn't all too sure what to say when Jennie returned on the subject of watching some film instead, before they went to bed. Both Catherine and Kim seemed more interested in staying by the pool, but then again they were always easy to convince if they found a good movie...
So, what would it be then?

Girls of Jack
One man's world has been turned upside down, but he may find hope in the most unexpected places.
A story which I hope to work on when I have the time for it. For now it's closed for others, but I'll gladly accept ideas and suggestions for how to improve or continue the story! I've now started adding conditions, which is how I planned it from the start. So far it's recommended to read without activating the play function, but please try it out if you want, and let me know if you find something odd about the scoring.
