Chapter 5
by mbirch
What do you decide to do?
Look for cover
The sheer **** of the explosives hammering the platform and all that surrounds it makes it near impossible for you to regain your balance. You drop your gun as 2103 grabs you firmly and carries you toward a large stack of crates containing military food rations. You look up as several TIE Fighters fly over your heads and a couple more troopers, including one of a particularly high rank, move into cover next to you. A freight ship about half the size of the platform you were stood on lands hard and scrapes along the surface as at least 2,000 rebel soldiers spill out of two exits located on either side, and several more similar sized ships are only seconds from landing. You are in the middle of an invasion.
"C'mon, into the forest.. this is a lost cause already." 2103 whispers to you whilst maintaining a strong grip on your shoulder. You don't have much of a choice as you attempt to peel away from the battle unnoticed by either army.
After 10 or so minutes of solid sprinting you are relatively deep into the snow-covered forest though you can still hear the horrific sound of warfare only a mile or two away. You remove your helmets and toss them aside in surprising co-ordination as you try to catch you breath.
"Holy shit.." you sigh, removing the knee and elbow pads from your gear set. You're safe, for now, but you're undoubtedly not the only ones who ran into the forest. You walk for another few miles after stripping yourselves of the heaviest parts of your equipment, leaving you with a thin layer of black insulated body suit and white cloth overalls. You let your jet black hair down as you start to clear a spot to set up a camp. 2103 kept most of his gear on, and still carries his E11 though he has abandoned his helmet as you did much earlier on.
It's not long before you have a small flame, due to 2103's lighter. You sit aside each-other on a collapsed tree, a meter or two away from your newfound heat source. Everything was eerily quiet, including yourselves. It was an essential time of reflection.
"You know.." 2103 says, staring at the icy ground beneath him, "..I just want to say, in case the worst happens.." he continues, now looking you in the eyes, "that all this time, I've thought you were one of the greatest people out there." A little baffled, you intently listen; "And now that we're out here, and there aren't any rules, I wanted to know if you'd go out with me.. so at least I have something to lose." he finishes, looking a little hopeful.
Do you feel the same way?
