Chapter 34 by Suvinceus Suvinceus

Which dossier should she choose?

Look around the library

"Do you mind if I explore for a while?" Hannah asked.

"Not at all. Be sure to come back when you're done."

Hannah looked around the bookstore, and as much as she wanted to read any of the books that caught her eye, she knew she was busy. Her exploration continued until she saw a few demon-like people.

The first was a lanky, dark-haired man in slightly tattered clothing and was reading the novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird.' He was also the only one that didn't have a demonic appearance.

Next was an old man, whom, despite his age, looked very fit. His hair was completely gray, with a touch of brown, and he wore his favorite turtleneck and pants. He also was scanning for vintage novels.

The third man was a not-so-young man with a wiry build, dressed in black and white and donning face makeup of the same colors, so that he'd resemble a Pierrot. Instead of reading or searching for books, he was taking a small nap.

And last, but not least, there was a woman who looked like she stepped out of 1700s France, what with her garish makeup and fancy dress. She was looking out a window while eating a slice of strawberry cake.

"Um... hello?" Hannah asked.

The four individuals instantly heard her inquiry, even the one that was napping as he awoke. The first one to speak was the fancy woman, who asked, "Bonjour, madam. Are you the girl that Marukka has told us about?"

Hannah's eyes widened in surprise before she replied, "Um, yeah, that's me."

"I am Elegia, the Goddess of Betrayal. I had betrayed my country during the Revolution, and in response, they literally cut my head off for that. By the way, I had come here to see if the 120 Days of Sodom from Marquis de Sade were available."

Elegia then asked the others, "Would you be so kind to introduce yourselves to this sweet young lady?"

One of them closed his book and nodded. "Sure... I'm Gabriel, the God of the Innocent," he told Hannah.

"Actually, to tell you the truth, I'm supposed to be in purgatory, but Marukka invited me to become a god in Hell, anyway. Besides, I've done nothing wrong in my entire lifespan before some loony took me out." Gabriel could only sigh as he now sported a look of worry.

The man in black and white shook his head 'no', as he couldn't converse through actual language. Thankfully, Elegia helped him out.

"Madam, this fellow is Xerxes, known as the God of Silence. I've been told he has rather feminine features... and some of us goddesses find them to be a major turn-on." She said with a chuckle.

The old man cleared his throat before he spoke. "I'm Mordred. The God of Impotence and Old Age. Say,"

Mordred leaned in to ask Hannah, "Have you ever read any of my magazines?"

"Uh..." the young woman felt her teeth chatter before giving him a simple "Of course not."

"Such a shame," he said with a dissapointed frown.

"Well, anyway, I better get going. Miss Gertrude needs me." Hannah told them, but just as she was about to leave, Elegia approached her.

"Before you go, Xerxes has something for you," she said.

Hannah raised an eyebrow before walking over Xerxes. He flashed her a small smile before he pulled out what resembled a dossier similar to the ones Hannah looked into.

"A dossier? About who?" she asked.

"Go ahead, take a peek." Gabriel replied with encouragement.

With a shrug, Hannah opened the dossier.

Now, she must cooperate with ten souls and bring one of them back to life...

"This is... my dossier? How on earth...?" a slack-jawed Hannah asked.

Elegia grinned, before telling her, "Here's to hoping you get your hands on that other mysterious dossier."

"Um... sure. Thanks... I guess?"

With that, Hannah gave the dossier back to her and traveled back to Gertrude's office.

You've found an easter egg!
