Listen to the Story of the Boomers

Madeline was told she should go see Pete the Keeper of the Story. She headed to what people were calling the Boomer Musuem. Inside she found a young boy.

"You're the outsider! Mother Pearl sent word that you'd be stopping by. You must be eager to hear the story of our people!" he said eagerly.

"I...ummm. Yes that is me." Madeline said looking at the large mural painted on the wall of the old military building.

"Oh I am Pete. The Keeper of the Story." He said with an note of pride.

"Nice to meet you Pete." Madeline said politely "Will you tell me about your people and the mural on the wall?"

"Yes!" Pete said energetically "And to think--you are the first outsider to hear the story of our people!"

He cleared his throat and walked by the mural.

"Ages ago, long before I was born, we lived underground. Everyone had guns but the overseer wouldn't let us explode anything, not even a hand grenade. We left and wandered the wastes. There were savages with knives. We blew them up with frag mines and grenades, burned them with flamethrowers."

He moved down the wall as he explained.

"It was neat, but there was a downside. For every 43.6 savages we killed, we lost one of our own. We needed a new home. We needed Nellis. Nellis, glittering like shrapnel in the desert sun. Nellis, bursting with missiles, warheads, and bombs. Nellis had waited. Just for us. Here, we have prospered and multiplied. Here, our mighty guns destroy any savages who might try to harm us before they can even reach our gates! Well, until... but... not saying you want to harm us or you're a savage, but... anyways."

"Its okay I understand you haven't had any outsiders in a long time." Madeline reassured him.

"Nellis has revealed many secrets. It has taught us how to fly the bombers once based here. And it has taught us where to find one!" He continued. "And that is our story so far, for this last image is our future. To restore the bomber, to fly the open skies in armored safety, raining high-explosive ordnance upon ignorant savages - this is our destiny!"

He ended with an enthusiastic smile.

"That is VERY interesting. Thank you for telling me Pete." Madeline smiled. Pete responded like a child getting candy.

"I am gonna tell everyone you listened to the story! I am the first Keeper of the Story to tell an outside. That's so cool! You wanna hear it again?"

"You told it so well the first time, I don't think I need to hear it. Thank you for sharing the story with me Pete--Keeper of the Story." Madeline added his title just to impress him even more.

"Well if you have any questions just let me know!"

Madeline smiled and headed on.
