What's next?
Lilly's request
You wake up with a groan and prepare yourself for the day. You look for Flora as you leave your ship, but it seems she is still sleeping.
You walk your way through the hangar and sigh as you think about what you are going to do today. You were getting tired of sitting in your office failing to remember your past while only occasionally helping a guardian.
As you reach to open the door to your office you notice that the lock has been tampered with. Upon opening the door you see that your chair is swiveling slightly. You rest your hand on the handle of your trusty hand cannon as you enter the room. You wanted to think that whatever was in your office was a member of the vanguard, or someone with authorized access to be in your office, but due to their hiding you understand that it isn't.
You openly ask who is in your office as you take the first step around your desk.
"It's just me!" The recognizable, slightly buzzing voice of Lilly nearly shouts nervously. She stands from under your desk. "Sorry for breaking in." She sits in your chair. "I just needed a place to hideout."
You lean on your desk before asking why she needed a place to hide.
"Well. I may or may not be an enemy of the vanguard now..." Her voice trails as she drifts her eyes away from you.
"What did you do?" You ask, almost surprised by your own calm demeanor.
"You remember how I said I was stealing things from the rig?.. Yeah, those things were actually really important to the vanguard." She puts her feet on your desk. "Shipments worth of glimmer, fuel, important data, and..." She holds her hand out, Sherbet appears and causes an object to materialize on your desk.
The item looks like bone forged into the jagged shape of a break-action shotgun with three barrels inside of one large barrel, it also has two triggers. A slight green glow emits from the many cracks on the weapon's frame. From each barrel glows a different color. The top left, orange. The top right, blue. The bottom, purple. The large barrel containing them glows the same green that the cracks emit.
For a second you are entirely entranced by the weapon on the desk, it was almost as if the gun itself was telling you to grab it... To use it.
You shake your head slightly before asking about the gun on your table.
"A while ago the hive were trying to summon something... To do so they were sucking the light out of guardians and using it to create crystals of void energy, luckily there was a fireteam that shut down that operation... Unfortunately, they had a backup plan." She gestures to the weapon. "This shotgun is the result of the very process the Hive were going to use to summon whatever it is they were trying to summon... The big barrel is actually three uniquely shaped barrels separated by those three glowing ones. Those three special barrels fire a slug the shape of the barrel... Each slug will return to the barrel after each time they are fired." She shrugs and shakes her head. "I wish I knew how it worked." She answers the question you had yet to ask. "If any of the slugs connect with a guardian it will stick to them and begin to suck the light from them... Each slug harvests its own kind of light." She points to the three glowing barrels. "When the slugs return, the light they harvested is used to fuel the solar, arc, and void barrels respectively." She grabs hold of the gun, but lets go almost immediately. "From there you can do two things. Fire a spread shot of pure light from each of those glowing barrels, or open it up and watch as the light it absorbed floods out of the weapon."
Sherbet stores the weapon. "I assume that the hive were going to use this weapon to make the process of stealing light from guardians saver and faster." Her plating moves slightly in differing directions, as if she were shivering. "Once the process started it is likely they would make more weapons like this, and then still summon what they were trying to summon."
Lilly shakes her head. "Good thing we had guardians who managed to kill the one who built this thing." She sits back down. "Just knowing that thing exists puts me on a vanguard watchlist." She lets out a mechanical sigh. "Stealing all that stuff probably made me an enemy of the vanguard anyway, but this gun makes me irredeemable."
Sherbet floats over so that she is only a few inches from your face. "We need a place to stay."
"How about your ship?" Lilly suggests, spinning in your chair.
"It's fine by me." You shrug. "You just have to get there without being seen."
"That's the easy part." Lilly laughs. I did manage to make it to the hangar, set my ship to auto pilot to a hiding spot, and then crawl to your ship all without being seen."
You roll your eyes, considering her condition, most of it was luck.
