Let it be for now

You and Rachel seem to agree that it's better to stay low about the whole thing for now, and you try some ordinary conversation while just lounging in the couch and taking sips from your cups of tea. It takes some time and effort to get back Kate into talking as well, but eventually you're all into a discussion regarding the crappiest soap operas of all time.

It's not the most exciting subject really, but it does manage to get you all in a better mood again - and it also helps that you seem to be watching one of them right now, as the TV has just kept going with none bothering to find the remote or simply turn it off.

"I think it's the acting really!" Kate is just saying, while a particularly lousy played character has appeared on the screen. A complete lack of commitment is written all over the young man's face, even as he's just about to declare his character's love to a girl in the same class, and you dare say that a total amateur like yourself could be doing the same role with better results. "I mean... just look at that...!"

"It could as well be the plot." Rachel disagrees with her, but not without shaking her head at the boy's horrible performance. "I'm not sure I'd be trying any harder myself, if I got stuck with a contract for such a crappy writer!"

"Still not a reason to just stop trying!" The blonde insists, and then roll her eyes as the poor actor miserably fails at projecting any emotions in the scene that follows. The only thing lifting this fiasco in your eyes at least is the fact that his co-actor is actually very pretty, though just slightly better at acting than himself. "I mean, c'mon! Don't they even want any other jobs after this one...?"

"I bet that she won't have any trouble at least." Says Rachel, while the camera seems to focus for a moment on the girl's deep decolletage, and winks back at you as she's managed to catch your thoughts exactly.

"Can't argue with that..." Kate admits, albeit reluctantly, while leaning herself back in the couch with her arms crossed under her chest - seemingly oblivious to how the gesture affects her own quite generous cleavage. Then she blushes and straightens her bathrobe again, when Rachel points it out to her with a mischievous grin on her face, and the discussion ebbs out a bit while you try and follow the crappy story.

For a moment you're about to say something about all the strange relationship-plots in all these shows, but decide against when you realize that some real-world relations can become every bit as strange as the ones on TV. And the girls seem to be having some similiar thoughts themselves - especially when it's revealed that the busty young woman is already having an affair with the crap-character's older sister. Well, some triangles were just never meant to work, you guess...

It's about an hour later when Kate eventually decides it's time to be heading back home, though both you and Rachel tries to make her stay for some supper at least.

"Well, thanks...!" She passes up on the offer, while heading back to the bedroom for fetching her clothes. Again there's an obvious blush to her face, as Rachel gets up to follow her upstairs, but at least she dares to meet your eyes again when she looks back over her shoulder. "I... really mean it! But I won't be getting home until late if I miss the next train!"

"Well, you can always sleep on the couch!" Says Rachel with a friendly laugh, but immediately seem to regret her words, as her friend visibly tenses up at the notion. You can't hear for sure what they're saying next to eachother, but see her slowly relax again while your housemate puts her arm around her slender waist and lead her further up the stairs.

Meanwhile you're not entirely sure what to think of the idea yourself, though it's admittedly a bit clumsy of Rachel to offer while her friend obviously isn't fully comfortable in your company yet. At one hand you'd love for the two of them to spend a little more time together, and for yourself to get to know Kate a bit better, while at the same time you were starting to look forwards to a night in private with Rachel - what with her promise about showing her gratitude and all...
