Let Stuart sort out the situation

Kayla knew that she should jump in and say what had happened, but something held her back. She wished she had the confidence to intervene but she just couldn't find her voice in time.

"My patience is running thin, are you going to sorry for spilling my beer?" Jason asked to Stuart, his words hiding a threat of what would happen if he refused to apologise.

"I'm... sorry. It won't happen again..... Sorry" stammered Jason in reply, even though he knew he had nothing to do with the bottle being smashed.

"Now that wasn't so difficult" said Jason mockingly "Now go and tidy up the mess you've made and then fetch me a beer"

Head bowed, Stuart did as instructed, carefully picking up the shards of glass whilst simultaneously keeping an eye on Jason as if he felt some form of retribution was imminent. When he was finally sure he'd gathered up every piece he fetched Jason a replacement beer.

"No need to be so nervous Stuart, accidents sometimes happen" said Jason as he took receipt of the drink "me, Mark and James were about to have a drinking game, why don't you join us?"

Stuart felt utterly bewildered - on the one hand he was sure that this was some sort of trap and there was nothing he wanted less than to spend time in Jason's company. On the other hand he knew if he refused to join them bitter experience had taught him things quickly got far worse. Deciding it was the safer option to join in he pulled up a chair.

Kayla watched on relieved that her inaction hadn't lead to the situation escalating. Whilst Stuart still looked dazed from the incident she was glad to see that he seemed to be making friends with Jason. And at that point Stuart took a great big swig of his drink as the other three guys in the group cheered him on. Kayla knew that Stuart couldn't take his drink, if he carried on like that things would be turning very messy very quickly.
