Let's be rational now...

You stare at Meghan, then Melody, then back. After five minutes your brain unfreezes with the realization that you have two devastated girls in front of you. "Okay, Meghan, Melody lets go back to the room and talk rationally, okay?" You say and gently take Meghan's hand and pull.

Almost on auto pilot she moves, numbly.

"Melody?" You say, holding out your hand.

"What?" She asks, looking up from her feet. You wince at the pain in her eyes.

"Come on, let's all talk."

With some coaxing you take Melody's hand and lead the two girls to the room. You take them to the couch and have them sit while you close and lock the door.

You turn to see both of them sitting, and staring at their feet. Moving to the fridge you take out a couple of beers. You usually don't drink this early int he morning, but you figure this'll take out a bit of the tension in the room. At least a little bit. "So..." You say after opening and handing them one each. Melody downs half of it in one chug, while Meghan takes just a sip. "What are we going to do? First things first...You say you've always loved me?"

Melody nods, "I...I wanted to give you everything, Jack. My entire being. I just...we...it was just never the right time, you know? Something would always come in between us. You ever notice we were never single at the same time? Don't get me wrong, if you had found someone else I was happy. Like with Meghan here, you don't have to be..."

"No no no...he's yours, you have the rights. You've told me how much he means to you over IM hundreds of times, and I don't steal other girls' guys. I had two boyfriends stolen from me, so I vowed never to do that to someone, and this is even more than just a boyfriend and I don't want to hurt you after you asked for my advice and..." Meghan said in one breath before the need for air made her stop. "I am so sorry..."

"It's not your fault, how could you have known?" Melody states.

"This is a mind blowing situation. On the one hand I guess me and Meghan are done...before we even began and..."

"And on the other you don't want to see me anymore either. I understand...You can have the room I'll..." Melody says, fresh tears forming.

"WHOA." You say, holding your hand out. "You are my best friend. I couldn't imagine my life without you, and I don't want to!"

Meghan nods, "Yeah, I'm not going to come between you two. I'm happy for the both of you..."

"WHOA!" You say again, "You are not going to dump me before we even start dating."

"But..what do you want?!" Meghan and Melody say in almost the same breath.

"I don't know...this is not a situation that I imagined and..."

Suddenly Meghan turns to Melody, "Melody...uh...we're good friends too, right?"

Melody blinks at this, "Uh, yeah this won't come between us either. We'll figure something..."

"Well...I have confession to make. Whenever you were talking about your mystery guy I was jealous...of him. I mean...Melody do you...do you think I'm pretty?" Meghan says, obviously her mind a jumble.

Again your best friend blinks, but this time you detect a blush starting up, "Uh...Y-yeah. W-why?" You raise and eyebrow at the tone and slight breathlessness in Melody's tone.

"Well...have you ever thought about another girl?"

"When I'm watching porn and stuff...yes. But never really in life, you know?"

You want to say something, but there's something in your head that also screams "SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

"Oh...well...I was thinking. Jack doesn't want to lose either of us. I don't want to lose him. You don't want to lose him. And, I don't want to lose you as a friend. I think you are hot, and would be on my list for going lesbo for, you know."

You watch Melody's throat work as she swallows a load of saliva, "I...I am?"

"Yes. Am...would I be on your list?"
