Learning something new before creating an illusion barrier

Lex was too pent up with his sexual, personal, and mental frustrations to deal with Bianca and Xanthia. Sure, he could have a bit of fun with them, but that wouldn't help with what happened at the office. Lex shook his head while thinking, 'Jacob was acting far too strange to make any sense. He is certainly a tool, but when it came to work, he has always been dedicated to whatever he put his mind to, but, this change of focus was far too dramatic. That swift kick to his privates should have drawn some of his attention, sure, his ire, most probably, but his devotion? No, that didn't make any sense. I mean sure, he has always gone over the top when he liked something or someone, but, this was simply too much. Perhaps something happened to him at the hospital. Hmm, it would be easier and more likely to have happened after he was discharged though. Ugh, but the real question was why would someone give Jacob a mental shove in my direction?' It was at times like these that Lex enjoyed taking out his mental anguish on a video game monster or solving puzzles that had nothing to do with whatever he was having trouble with. This allowed his mind to run those thoughts in the background. After several hours of gaming, his problems, whatever they may be, had normally worked themselves out.

Lex couldn't have kept himself from smiling, even if he had wanted to. He had just given himself the answer to his own situation. He had a quest involving an illusion barrier anyway. Why not open one, take out his frustrations on some monsters, then head home? This was a great idea. Hell, he might even have a good time. He headed to Brownsville Sport Park in, you guessed it, Brownsville. This place was rarely used, which made it a great place to think while enjoying the night sky, but, in this case, it was great for putting up an illusion barrier without anyone noticing. Since it was a Thursday, there were even fewer people than usual. This was about as good as it could get, but Lex realized something when he pulled into the parking lot. He didn't have much room in his inventory. He needed to put some of it in the trunk, just in case he needed to carry something else.

After parking his car, he got out and opened his inventory.

This is what he saw when he looked inside: High Heels of Divinity, Sexy Apron, Glass pedestal, Lovely "Sneak"ers, Black Satin Dress, Mark of the Infertile, Necromancy 101, Gaia Sass T-shirt, Black Vibrating Muff Cover, Ruined Blue Spandex Sleeveless Crop Top, White Bra, Blue Yoga Pants, Ruined Black Sneakers, White Panties, Mother Earth's Quarterstaff, Divine Might, and Round Shield of Repentance.

Hmm, there are many items he really didn't need on him, this included: Glass pedestal, Mark of the Infertile, Gaia Sass T-shirt, Ruined Blue Spandex Sleeveless Crop Top, White Bra, Blue Yoga Pants, Ruined Black Sneakers, and his White Panties. He opened the trunk, revealing several insulated shopping bags, a few regular shopping bags, and several items in case the car got a flat or things of that sort. Lex took out those items and placed them gently into one of the regular shopping bags. This action opened up 8 inventory slots. After he closed the trunk, he looked back at his inventory and saw the book, Necromancy 101 which got him thinking, 'I really should learn whatever skills this book has to offer before I try my hand at fighting, but, if this is anything like the last skill book. I should sit down before I accept its teachings.' He looked around before walking over to a nearby bench and pulled out the book once he was certain no one was around, this prompted the following notification to pop up.

Necromancy 101: When learned will grant the following skills.

Drain lvl 1 - Range 30 yd - (Male only)

Cost: 20 Hp and Mp

Sends out a torrent of shadow energy siphoning 10 Hp and Mp from the target every second for 10 seconds.

Special: This effect doubles if you are physically touching the target.

Corpse explosion lvl 1 - Range 30 yd - (Male only)

Cost: 50 Mp

Target your ghoul or a corpse, causing it to explode for 10 damage + Intellect and Strength to all enemies within 5 yd of the ghoul or corpse.

Special: Ghoul(s) used this way have their next summoning cost reduced by 50% for 1 minute.

Requirements: 20 Intellect, 20 Wisdom, and 20 Strength.

Accept or Decline?

Lex looked around once more before mentally hitting, 'Accept' and like before, the book vanished from his hand. A few seconds later, nothing. Two notifications popped up that gave Lex quite the start.

Someone within Lex's peripheral vision caught his attention, a young looking man wearing a black business suit approached Lex and said. "Ah, so you are Lex Frost Moore. I have heard a lot about you." The man coughed softly before continuing. "I will be your teacher for this little lesson. Gaia has asked me to instruct you in the creation and use of the spells, Drain and Corpse explosion. Please, follow me." Lex got up to follow this man. He had short blond hair and icy blue eyes, but carried himself like someone who was much older. Lex tried to use Observe on him, but received an error, saying the target was too high of a level. The man turned slightly and smiled, saying. "Oh, I am quite sorry, but I am not allowed to tell you who I really am. To make things simple, please, just call me Joe." Lex nodded slightly before looking into the distance and noticed something odd within the field they were walking towards. He could clearly see ten corpses and several target dummies nearby. 'Huh, am I suppose to use those for practice?', Lex thought before Joe said. "Yes, but I guess that is rather obvious, isn't it?" Lex's eyes widened focusing once again on Joe and asked the obvious. "You can read people's minds?" Joe nodded slightly then said. "It helps with my job, but don't worry about that. You have more important matters to attend to."

Over the next hour or so, Lex worked with Joe on how to channel and control shadow energy on a small scale. Once Lex felt confident enough, Joe had Lex use it on one of the target dummies near by to make sure it was working. Once this was completed twice successfully Lex finally learned the spell, Drain lvl 1. Next Joe began to explain how Lex could **** shadow energy into a corpse and have it expand rapidly outward, causing an explosion from within the corpse. For this lesson, Joe had Lex focus that energy into different spots on one of the corpses to learn how much energy was just enough to achieve the proper result. Joe smiled and said. "Amazing, you're a quick learner. Gaia was right, this wasn't a waste of my time. This time I want you to focus on the center of the next corpse and cause a proper explosion, using the whole corpse. I know you can do it, Lex." Lex let out a breath, channeling shadow energy in the center of his hand before sending it towards the corpse. This time Lex watched with interest as the air bent around where his energy was flowing, the results when it touched the corpse were as follows, it jerked upwards slightly, expanding rapidly before exploding into a cloud of red and brown mist within a 5 yd radius. Joe nodded and said. "Good, good. Finish using the rest of those corpses and your training will be complete."

Several minutes later, Lex had destroyed the rest of the corpses and even one of the target dummies, resulting in his successful development of the new spell, Corpse explosion lvl 1. Lex was quite excited, bowing his head slightly to Joe and said. "Thank you very much for teaching me. I have learned a lot from you, Joe." Joe chuckled and said. "Don't mention it, really. Gaia wouldn't like that. Speaking of things you won't like, it is time for you to wake up." Joe leaned in and touched Lex's forehead, forcing Lex's eyes to close. By the time Lex could open his eyes again, he was sitting on that bench like he had never left. One thing was definitely different though, there were two new exclamations flashing that he allowed to pop up.

Lex shook his head with a little smile and thought, 'Gaia enjoys her dramatics, doesn't she?' A single tear dripped down his cheek as he sniffed gently, wiping away that tear and said. "Ugh, why do I get teary eyed when a cut scene is good?"

After a minute of thinking, Lex decided to set up that illusion barrier here. Upon casting, Create illusion barrier, a window popped up with options for what type of illusion barrier he wanted to make.

The list was as follows:

Type of illusion barrier: empty, trap, or monster.

Created illusion barrier has a time ratio of 1:1 up to 1:5.

Environment types currently available: Swamp, forest, desert, or rigged. (Rigged only available within trap setting.)

Monster list currently available:

Tier 1: Boars, imp, kobold, goblin, elemental, or undead.

Can be set to public or private.

Lex looked over his options before adjusting each of them to his liking. He set the type of illusion barrier to monster, its time ratio to 1:5, and the environment to forest. He took a little longer before setting the type of monster to kobold and finally its availability to private. He was curious as to which type of kobold he would see. Would they be the softer bodied ones, similar to rats and mice? Or would they be the scaly and harder bodied ones, similar to dragons and lizards? Well, he was about to find out as he hit create. - 10 Mp
