Laundry

It is, by the smell of your sheets, about time you did your laundry.

You’ve never done it at college before, and truth be told, it was usually your parents that did it back at home (well, except for the times when you’d made certain… messes, and needed to remove evidence of them). So, you decide to head over to the laundry room first to check it out.

The machines turn out to be pretty simple to use—a cursory examination of the knobs tells you everything you need to know, and you suddenly feel a little silly for not just bringing your sheets with you. After a quick trip to your room and back, you drop your bedsheets into the tank, plop in some quarters, and start up the washing machine. A minute later, you repeat the move with your hamper full of dirty clothes.

Right as you’re about to head out, you spot a dark-haired girl curled up in a chair by the back, watching something on her laptop.

Your curiosity sparked, you start to walk towards her. She pulls her earbuds out and looks up at you, brushing her long hair out of her eyes. You realise then that she’s got a nice and curvy body, and deep black doe eyes that makes your heart miss a beat.

“Is something up?” she asks, looking faintly concerned.

“You doing your laundry too?” you ask, and she nods at a machine that’s whirring at the side. “I’m Alex—I just wanted to say hi, check out what you’re watching.”

“Oh hi! Um… I’m Jennifer, ” she says, just barely stumbling over her words. “I was just watching some anime.” She turns her computer screen around for you to see, and you take the moment to admire both her and the screen.

It turns out that you do recognise the show. It’s one of the few that you’ve seen before.

“Hey, I love **** Note,” you say, and she perks up, a little surprised by your reaction.

“Yeah, me too! I’m actually rewatching it,” she says, blushing a little from the admission.

“Mind if I join you? That machine’s saying I’ve still got to wait half an hour before my load’s done.”

“Uh… yeah, sure,” she hurriedly says, and she hands you an earbud as you pull up a chair next to hers.

Jennifer, though initially a little quiet and shy, quickly opens up as you find common ground over the show. The two of you chatter away over small details for three episodes, pausing in the middle to transfer your sheets and clothes into the dryer.

You almost feel disappointed when your dryers clunk to a halt and the episode comes to a close a few minutes later. As you gather up your stuff to bring back to your room, you see Jennifer looking at you hesitantly, meeting your eyes briefly before looking away.

“We should do this again sometime, yeah?” you say, and she instantly perks up, almost dropping her laptop to the ground.

“Oh yea! Of course,” she says, bobbing her head up and down.
