Last day of the year
“Good to see the sun out for the last day of the year,” Tiffany said as she sat across from Mark at a cafe table.
“Still pretty chilly out here but at least it makes a bit of a difference,” Mark said.
The two were having a late lunch and a bit of coffee. It was actually Tiffany who first introduced Mark to coffee. He had never had it before until Tiffany showed him to the best coffee joint on campus. Since then, he wouldn’t ever pass up on the opportunity for a nice Latte.
When they finished up at the Cafe, it was already the afternoon. Tiffany had planned to take Mark down to Time Square for the evening as it was the best place you could be when the clock struck 12 on New Years Eve. The whole thing sounded perfect, except for one thing. Diego.
Diego would be there. Since Tiffany was such a nice person that didn’t like to upset someone or tell them no, she felt like she had to say yes when he asked if it would be alright if he could hang with her on New Years Eve in Times Square. Diego had found out that the two of them would be there and thought it would be a great opportunity to at the very least, cockblock Mark and stop him from making any further advances on her.
This just infuriated Mark, especially after his petty little prank against him the night before.
“I’m sorry, I felt bad, he did drive me to the hospital yesterday, I just didn’t want to say no,” she told Mark as they walked around the city together.
Mark didn’t really know what else to tell her. He spoke to Tiffany about how he knew that Diego tried to perve on her every time she went to change her clothes at home. But she was still too nice of a person to tell him to basically get stuffed.
As the afternoon hit, they found themselves in a sea of people, right in the heart of New York. While there, Tiffany excused herself, needing to use the bathroom.
“Do you mind holding my handbag just for a moment, I really need to use the loo,” she politely asked him.
“Yeah of course,” he said, taking her handbag before she vanished.
While gone, Mark noticed that Tiffany’s phone was inside, buzzing multiple times. He knew it was wrong to spy but curiously he looked inside to check, considering how many messages in a row was being sent to her.
“Fucking hell,” he mouthed as he looked at her phone to see it multiple messages from Diego, asking about tonight.
Straight away, he knew what he was going to do. Whether this was wrong or not, whether Tiffany would be annoyed or not, Mark was going to do it. He was going to fight fire with fire and there was only one way to do this.
He opened up her messages with Diego and sent a straight text back.
“Forget Times Square. I’ve got a better idea. Meet me in Brooklyn. 11pm tonight. A bar called Henry’s, I’ll see you there...”
That ought to keep the bastard away, he thought.
Straight away, he replied.
“Sounds perfect Tiff. See you then.”
Mark quickly deleted the message notification and put Tiffany’s phone back in her handbag. He couldn’t help but laugh, that little prick would be driving out to Brooklyn tonight, expecting to be meeting Tiffany there. Instead, she would still be here in Times Square, alone with Mark.
Tiffany soon came out of the bathroom, she smiled at him as he gave back her handbag. “Alright, let’s find a good spot for tonight,” she said.
