Chapter 9

What's next?

Kate actually has... Fun?

While Delia silently read her book, Kate begrudgingly played with the dolls. The last time she had played with a Barbie doll, she actually WAS old enough for kindergarten. Surprisingly, Kate was starting to feel a bit relaxed as she played, a giggle escaping her lips as she made the dolls talk and interact with one another.

A minute later, and Kate had already developed several different stories for the dolls to act out, a smile etching itself on her face as she laughed and played. She was actually having... Fun? Yeah! She was having fun without any care in the world! Almost as if a great big load of stress had been lifted off her shoulders. She even managed to incorporate the toy animals and army men into her stories as she continued to act them out, even loudly giving her characters different and silly voices as they interacted with one another.

Hearing the commotion, Delia looked up from her book and smiled. Truthfully, she was one of the newest hires at this school, having just started yesterday after graduating almost a year prior. However, the class she had received weren't the most imaginative, with many of them using free time to play on their phones and tablets instead of all the toys and books that she had brought in. They weren't bad kids, but she could tell that they didn't like her.

This girl though? From the second that she tried to convince her that she was a twenty-three-year-old who was here for a job offer, Delia knew that this Kate Ambers had the strongest imagination of any kid that she had ever met. And the sight that she was seeing only cemented that opinion. Delia wiped a tear from her eye that was beginning to form, wishing that she had a kid like Kate.

Or any kid, really. Unfortunately, Delia was born with the inability to have kids, something which almost traumatized her when she found out two years ago. But she loved them enough to become a teacher. Shaking the negative thoughts from her head, Delia looked up at the time and placed her book down, saving her page once again as she got up from her desk and walked over to the play area.

Kate was too busy making a doll dance with a monkey to notice Delia walking up to her, only stopping when she heard the teacher clear her throat. "I'm sorry to interrupt your little party, but I'm afraid that it's naptime."

"Aww!" Kate whined as she sat the toys down and looked over to the teacher. "Already?!"

"Don't worry," Delia said calmly as she lead Kate over to a blue foam mat that was laid out on the floor, "you can continue playing afterwards. Barbie and Mr. Monkey won't go anywhere."

Kate nodded with a giggle, deciding that that sounded fair. The little woman then laid down on the mat as Delia covered her with a pink blanket, Kate snuggling in as the teacher shut off the lights before returning to her book. Kate turned over on her side, a smile on her face as she closed her eyes.

Half a second later, Kate's smile disappeared as her eyes widened, her face turning neon red. What was she doing?! She wasn't a kindergartener, she was a twenty-three-year-old adult woman! She had to get out of this mad house!

If she remembered right, her purse was still in the bathroom where that Winnie woman had spanked and diapered her. Inside said purse where her keys, phone, and ID. This meant that all she had to do was sneak out of here, grab her belongings, run to her car, and drive away from here like there was no tomorrow!

Looking over her shoulder, Kate saw that Delia had turned on a lamp on her desk to continue reading her book, the soft glow showing that the woman was quite engrossed in it.

Kate gulped nervously. Now was her chance to escape.
