They pay you off by buying you a nice house and help you to take over your Uncle's business and give him a helping hand in starting his dream business of producing porn in Las Vegas. Among the Smith family holdings is partial ownership in your small home town bank.

Although not their first choice they have Ashley married to Tom Bradley four months before Ashley gives birth to a son.
