Chapter 14 by Vain Vain

But what should he do about that?

Just try and ignore her, and focus on the movie

Even if it wasn't easy to do so, Jack managed eventually to shut his clingy daughter out of his mind, and tried his best to follow the plot of the movie to give him something else to think about. It wasn't like he didn't enjoy the warmth of Catherine's body against his side though, and he was hardly able to ignore her altogether, but at least he could stifle his first, and quite inappropriate reaction.

Just some twenty minutes into the movie he'd realized there was actually a decent story to it as well, compared to most films he'd seen in a familiar genre, and he quite enjoyed how some of the characters were well portrayed. One of the girls in particular had caught his interest early on, and just like he thought it seemed like she would be one of the few to survive the ordeal.

She was cute, but rather timid, and the way she dressed and acted to avoid attention was the reason she wasn't targeted by the story's masked antagonist. In a way she reminded him of Jennifer, even if this girl wasn't quite so successful in hiding her true beauty, and the way her character developed throughout the movie made him slowly start thinking there may be a glimmer of hope even for a girl like his red-head daughter.

Coming to think of it, he really didn't know anything at all about how his daughters were acting at school, and he found it mind-boggling to think that they might not be the same persons at all like they were at home. What if Kim or Kate had always been the loner, while Jennie was the one who was dating and flirting with just about everyone in class, for example...?

Not that he was too worried about something like that, at least not in Jennifer's case, but the way the girl in the film was slowly turning into the hottest girl at school made him think at least twice at least. Especially as this made her a prime target for the bad guy of the show, who turned out to be a much closer acquaintance to her than even Jack had been able to predict, and he couldn't help from being provoked by the idea that even your most beloved ones could also be your worst kind of enemies.

In the end he wasn't quite sure what to think of the movie as a whole, but was **** to admit that it got his blood pumping at least, which was something he'd missed for the last couple of days. More than anything he couldn't stop wondering though, what kind of secrets a girl like Jennifer could hide from her own parents, just like that girl in the movie had actually been doing for years.

"Well, not too bad!" Said Catherine by his side, as the movie finally ended, and managed to startle her father just a little for the second time the same evening. Her sister in the other end of the couch reacted in much the same way as well, and Jack just happened to glance back at Jennifer just as she turned her head to look their way. Her cheeks were a lot rosier than her usual paleness, and it was fairly obvious how the film had affected her in a similar way as it did to Jack himself.

Meanwhile, Kimberly had apparently managed to fall asleep in the chair, which gave Jack a few more minutes to sit back and ponder the story while Kate went off to shake her youngest sister awake...

What's after all this then...?
