Just before the Sack of King's Landing (late 283 A.C.)

As you near King's Landing, you notice the city's defenses seem to be tighter than usual. That does not really surprise you, given parts of Westeros' recent history.

For the last year, the Seven Kingdoms have been at war. From what you've heard, it began when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen **** Lady Lyanna Stark of Winterfell. Her elder brother, Brandon Stark, then made a rash and daring attempt to rescue her by riding to King's Landing and demanding Rhaegar's head. That act of recklessness ultimately resulted in the deaths of Brandon, his father Lord Rickard Stark, and all his companions and their fathers. All those deaths were ordered by the Mad King.

That in turn led to Eddard Stark and his allies rising up against the Targaryens. Lord Robert Baratheon of the Stormlands is the leader of that faction. For that reason, the war is now known as Robert's Rebellion. The rebels consist of the North, the Riverlands, the Vale, and almost the whole of the Stormlands. The loyalists consist of the Crownlands and the Reach. Until recently, Dorne, the Iron Islands, and the Westerlands have been neutral. Not too long ago, however, the Iron Islands and the Westerlands decided to declare for Robert, too. That was only after Robert killed Prince Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident. Since the rebels' victory was all but guaranteed by then, the Ironborn and the Westerlords chose to align with him. Cautious, but cowardly.

Of course, you do not feel you have any place to judge them. They are nobles; you are a commoner. Furthermore, you personally have gone out of your way to avoid getting involved in the fighting or the political disputes so far. Because of that, you have gotten through the whole Rebellion without a scratch.

When you reach the gates, you are relieved to discover that despite the heightened security, they are still allowing the smallfolk entrance.

Once you are inside King's Landing, you wonder where you should go.
