How would you feel when you were faced with the knowledge that multiverses exist? that it wasn’t only fiction, and reality was similar to a computer variable with countless parameters. Amazed? It was how John felt right now, a mixture of emotions that made John not know what he should do next. He was just going to pick up his girlfriend at her house for a date, but suddenly two men appeared and kidnapped him.

They brought him into their hidden base, which to John's surprise, was very futuristic and high-tech. What was more surprising was one of the men, after he removed his mask, had the same face as John but a bit older than him.

"I'm you, we are both John Danver, but I'm you from a different universe," said the man with the same face as John.

Of course, John was doubtful of such a claim. It was no different than a rambling of a madman that watched too many movies.

Knowing that John didn’t believe him, the other John tried to convince him in another way. "Okay, stop! I will trust you for now, but who is the other man, is he also me from a different universe? And why did you guys kidnap me?"

"No, I’m not one of you, let me introduce myself first, I'm Professor Eric Straus. The brilliant scientist who develops the method to travel the dimension to save the whole multiverse," the other man introduced himself. Eric was a middle-aged man in his late 40.

"What do you mean to save the whole multiverse? Is the world going to end soon?" John was shocked but then realized something important. "Wait, let me guess; do you kidnap me because you need me to save the world, so you gather all the John Danver from different universes to fight the big bad evil guy who threatens the continued existence of the multiverse? Wow."

Eric smiled wryly then shook his head, "You almost get it right John, but the big bad evil guy who will destroy the world is actually you, usually, I will just eliminate you directly, but that John from a different universe has convinced me to change how I deal with you guys. We are here to find a way where you can live happily but not destroy this world."

"I'm the big bad evil guy? Wait a minute…I notice something weird in your wording, what do you mean by finding a way where I can live happily but not destroy this world? Isn't it natural that if I'm happy with the world I don't have any reason to destroy this world?"

Eric shook his head once again, "In contrast, John, within the 1000 universes I have visited which have a variant of you living a happy life, these universes will end up hanging on the verge of destruction without any exception."

"The fuck? Anyway, what is the correlation between I’m having a happy life and the world getting destroyed? Is it really because of me or do you just deliberately blame me? I’m such an ordinary guy, how can I affect the world so much? Am I going to have a powerful superpower awakening inside me that will able to destroy this world?"

"In your case, it is comparable to Archduke Franz Ferdinand's **** which kickstarted a world war. You are the nexus of fate. A singularity. How you end up in life will have a huge butterfly effect on anyone in this world. You don’t have a superpower, but you are basically the crux, the cornerstone, of many potential big incidents. Call it unlucky.”

John frowned, what the man said about him was something unbelievable. “Seriously, that’s kind of exaggerated bullshit.”

Eric shrugged. “Well yeah, it sounds exaggerated, but it is truly happened like that, no joke, whether you believe it or not,” said the middle-aged man with a serious expression

"So, what do you want to do with me? You will not just kill me after explaining all of this, right?"

"Yes, as I said, I will not do my usual, the other you opened my perspective that just killing a bunch of John Danver isn't a permanent solution. What I will do to you is to implant a reality chip in you, then we will release you."

"What's a reality chip?"

"It is a device that can alter reality in a limited manner without breaking the fabric of reality, with that I can control and graft the reality around you as if it is a simulation. We will simulate the best way to avoid world destruction while keeping you alive and content with life."

"May I ask something first? Why do you choose to implant the reality chip on me, not him? we are both John Danver, can you just implant the chip on him and simulate the situation using him?"

"Nice questions, the answer is that he isn't a suitable target for observation, I already went through a number of calculations and various considerations before I choose you instead of another version of you in various other multiverses. You are the one that has the biggest chance to lead a happy life compared to the other John Danver in the entire multiverse, which means you possess the biggest risk, hence observing you and tinkering with your life will give us much more data to save the other universe."

"I think I already said too much, let us not waste any more time, you have a date to do with your girlfriend, so I'll feel bad if I keep you here much longer," Eric took out a remote and pressed some button.

The entire room was buzzing as the numerous pieces of machinery went active.

"This may hurt a bit, John," said Eric as the numerous mechanical hands began to work on this universe John Danver

John jolted awake. Cold sweats drenched his back. _A nightmare. _He touched all over his body and finally felt relieved after he didn't find any extra body parts or some of his body parts missing. He took a deep breath and let out a breath of relief, John then looked around and realized that he was inside his car. Thankfully, it didn’t look like he was driving in the middle of the road but had parked his car at some parking lot before he dozed off.

Vague memories about what happened before he dozed off began to resurface. Instead of being kidnapped by Eric and another universe John, John remembered that when he was on the way to pick up his girlfriend. He was hit by a severe narcoleptic episode. Didn’t want to **** himself and cause a traffic accident, he then decided to have a short rest and stopped his car in a free parking lot.

Oh crap, how long had I been dozing off? He checked his phone, and saw the time shown by the phone was 7 PM. He was half an hour late from the agreed time to pick up his girlfriend from her house.

He saw that there were several messages and missed calls from his girlfriend. John panicked and tried to call her back, but she didn’t take his call. “Shit, I hope she isn’t that angry, and an apology will solve the matter.”

“I’m sorry, something came up, I will be there soon.”

After sending his girlfriend a message, He turned on his car’s engine, and continue on his way to her home.

Unbeknownst to John, someone had been observing him. The mysterious man looked at the car that had gone away further.

“At first, he seems wary, he checked his body thoroughly, I think that he still retains a memory of being kidnapped by us, but other than that he doesn’t show any adverse reaction to the chip implant, so far, I think he’s ready.” The mysterious man, John from another universe, sent his observation report to Eric.

John finally arrived at his girlfriend’s house. His girlfriend, Kaylee Lane, had waited for him on her home’s porch, she was wearing a long red dress and looked elegant. As John had guessed, Kaylee looked upset.

Kaylee was a fairly pretty girl, not the prettiest in their school, but maybe still in the top 20 pretty girls in their school, but aside from her pretty face, Kaylee was quite average. A year after their graduation, John will propose to Kaylee, and Kaylee accepts his proposal, and they get married. After a few years, the two have a happy family with two children. John is working hard as a businessman to provide for his family, his tech company is successful, meanwhile, Kaylee is a lawyer in the city's top law firm. They are one of the city’s power couples. Winning in both career and family, a perfect life,” Eric mumbled after seeing the simulated future of John’s current life trajectory in this set of reality.

“I hate to ruin someone’s relationship, but his perfect life leads to many undesirable consequences. It sounds ridiculous that with John marrying Kaylee, a domino starts to fall because in their rise, they gather many people that dislike them, one possible outcome from this situation even lead to world war 3. As bullshit as it sounded, I can’t take the risk, this situation is doomed,” Eric sighed.

“Let's try to change the reality a bit so Kaylee will not end up with John.” The middle-aged scientist began to type something on his computer.

Eric began to type another variable on his computer.
