Again, Tara and Jess turned their cards quickly. Jess held the ace of spades, while Tara had the five of clubs.

Jess had already stood up when Rach turned over her card, showing the ten of clubs.

Rach was about to try to explain that she hadn’t meant to stare and how utterly uncomfortable she felt with the whole thing, but Tara had already given her a peck on the cheek and retreated to her seat to deal.
